This is not mine but is being forward around by a friend ...

If you don’t know what a 4473, Form 4, or 922(r) is, do not know what the dates 1934, 1968, 1986, 1994 and 2004 mean, cannot explain the difference between shall-issue and may-issue, or a 03 SOT versus an 02 SOT, then you are not prepared to articulate any useful opinion on the state of gun law in this country and you should do your homework before speaking.

I know it won’t really work but the blank look on their faces when you give the dates at least might be entertaining.

I agree with most of that, but if your friend thinks that all gunowners need to know "03 SOT vs 02 SOT," and puts that in the same league of knowledge as those dates, well, your friend is a special kind of stupid.

dont forget the internet loophole where folks can buy these automatic weapons and have them delivered to their house with no background check (actual statement from a coworker)

Man, when I hear that (not often, thankfully :) ) I just say, "Go try it. Go do it. Go on. Until you do, STFU because you are lying. Don't want to be called a liar? Go do it."

He’s not saying gun owners, he’s talking about idiots like Feinstein, Schumer, Pelosi, Odumba, etc that make stupid statements when they don’t know jack crap.

I’m not up to speed on the 922, or the SOT. I know the latter are for the NFA stuff

Years major gun measures passed, year assault weapon ban elapsed, stupid rules modifying with imported parts, and form you fill out when purchasing

The high (or low) points:
1934 - National Firearms Act (beginning of the NFA crap)
1968 - Gun Control Act, mainly influenced interstate transfers to be between FFLs
1986 - FOPA/Hughes Amendment, no more FA manufactured for general public, safe passage provision
1994 - AWB in effect
2004 - AWB expires

4473 - form to transfer firearm
Form 4 - form to transfer NFA item (you also fill out a 4473 for the actual transfer once the F4 is approved)
922(r) - bunch of regulations dealing with importing firearms/parts
Shall issue - permits should be issued if all requirements are met
May issue - permits are issued at the discretion of those in charge, even if requirements are met

03 SOT can only sell/transfer NFA items
02 SOT can also manufacture them
