Besides the basic, old school combloc chest rigs and belt pouches I have for AK mags, I'm not much of a gear guy when it comes to guns. However, I'm looking at options for a decent, affordable rig to hold Scorpion/Vityaz 9mm mags. Any suggestions from you more seasoned guys? I don't need anything top tier or super fancy, but I don't want something that's going to fall apart on first use either.

I'd say my budget is around $100 max - is that a reasonable goal?

If you just want a chest rig/vest to hold mags and such go to one of the shows. You can get a nice one for about $40. Not a plate carrier but like said if you just want it for mags you cant beat it. I bought 2 at a gun show awhile back and I think I paid $70 for them both! They aint top of the line like 511 but work for what I needed. Had pouches for 6 AR mags and 5 pistol mags, holster and several other pouches for whatever :)

Saw this on MAC’a review of the AK-V

Awesome, thanks guys. @Tobrooks I haven't been to a local show in a few years, so that'll be a good excuse to go check another one out! @Derek8404 that's a sharp looking rig. Very low profile. I remember seeing it in Tim's vid - sold out right now but I signed up for in-stock alerts on the CC website.

Appreciate it. Keep the suggestions coming!

The answer is.

It depends on useage.

I own all three setups battle belts, chest rigs, drop legs. Each of these have different uses for me. The constant factor is HSGI tacos and top strap bungee cords.

I will tell you depending on my "mission" I will use the best setup for that "mission".

Example. Run-n-gun 5k race = chest rig

Work a 12hr shift = battle belt

Self defense low profile = drop leg rig

Active shooter response = plate carrier with plates.

None of these are garbage setups

Self defense low profile = drop leg rig

Nothing about a drop leg rig really says “low profile” to me. What sort of rig are you using for this role?

Oh yes it does.

HSGI drop leg.

worn like a pro not a dumbass on my ankles. Lol

Thing is is this, If i need to low profile my PDW the situation is FU....ed.

In my PDW bag i carry a CZ Scorpion and my HSGI drop leg with the mags full. Very compact, more so in total size then the gun, bag and a belt or chest rig

Lol, ok. Very helpful......

Im pretty sure JB is referring to the Costa Leg rig. It doesn't quite hang all the way down like a drop leg holster, and I could see it being pretty well concealed by a coat or untucked shirt. But yeah, not really "low profile", but I could see a use where with a little. That, and JB is a pretty big dude, so the HSGI Leg rig that looks huge on some people looks kinda like a fanny pack on him.

True but its also in a whole context. The storage of my mags is not the visual .the damn CZ Scorpion is! At that point low vis with a CZ Scorpion is not the same low vis as a G19 IWB holster....

@gunbelt can make you a nice CCW Shoulder Holster for it I am sure.

Let me get to my laptop and I'll post some options too. I researched this a good bit a while back and found a decent setup that worked with shoulder straps or a plate carrier.

Ok finally sitting down at work this AM. I was looking at a couple of options, never pulled the trigger on any of them. I can't find all my notes, but here's the basics.

High Speed Gear Chest Platform: $77 https://www.highspeedgear.com/hsgi/chest-rig-40CP00.html
Your choice of regular or extended tacos, 3 or 4, https://www.highspeedgear.com/hsgi/ex-ptaco-11EX00.html
Other pouches as desired

This is the one I was most drawn to because it has the H harness setup and essentially unclips to be able to clip right to a plate carrier without moving pouches. A little expensive all in for the panel and your tacos, but you know HSGI makes nice kit.

For stand alone, this one looks nice for the price, and would let you add a few more pouches out front:

This one also seems pretty nice for the Colt or Glock mags: http://www.usgruntgear.com/subgunco4mar.html
And if you want a more basic setup with more mags, 6 Glock or Colt mags: http://www.usgruntgear.com/subgunco9mm6.html

This one I just found looks crazy... https://ic13arms.com/invrt-bandoleer-subgun-full-kit/

Haley Strategic D3CR (M, X, or H depending on your preference) with the subgun mag insert.
I looked at these a while ago and they didn't have the subgun insert then. Very interesting setup. A little pricey, but not terrible moreso than the HSGI stuff.
