Has anyone converted their Tac-14 into a SBS? Was debating on filing the paper work. Little hesitant seeing that the value has gone up more than double.

let me know what you think and share some pictures if you have any.

you WILL have to get the receiver engraved with your name, or your trust name, and county of conversion...
that might not do too much to the value.
If you're concerned about selling it later, you can have things removed from the registry at no cost.
And if you use the right kind of trust, you could make it essentially transferrable just by adding the new person's name as a responsible person.

County? Never seen anybody do that.
(and country wouldnā€™t be required either if that was a typo)

I think I decided to go ahead and keep it. A little SBS will be badass and fun to shoot. Just need to get my prints done.

Making sure you know you can do them yourself. If youā€™re local to Charlotte, swing by and weā€™ll knock ā€˜em out pretty quick.

Thanks for the offer brother. Buddy of mine brought that up. He said he went through a decent amount of print cards due to mistakes. Iā€™m sure itā€™s a lot easier with a second set of hands.

I found several filled out cards while digging through some stuff, but they are dated 2016. No specific info, just prints, date, and whodunnit.

Do these things actually have a time limit, so to speak? Would they be rejected because they are over four years old?

Pardon the hijack, please.

Unfortunately, the answer is ā€œit dependsā€.

Thereā€™s absolutely nothing in the regulations regarding age of fingerprints. The photo specifically states it has to be taken within one year, but the fingerprints say nothing.

So, you should be good to go, but it all depends on who opens the envelope and applies their own set of rules. Similar to the ones that reject B&W photos because they think/assume they need to be in color...when they donā€™t.

Other than it being Name, City, and State (not county) that has to be engraved, it also doesn't have to be the receiver. You can engrave the barrel instead if that appeals to you instead. 870 barrels are easily changed so it could be put back into TAC-14 configuration without engraving by simply replacing the barrel.

The down side is technically it can't be in SBS configuration with a barrel that isn't engraved. That means either engraving multiple barrels or just having one under 18".

I have one TAC-14 I converted to an SBS several years ago. I've got another one that the form 1 is pending on right now. I filed that 1/1/2021 so I'm hoping for approval in the next couple of weeks. Sorry, no pictures available at present.

Thatā€™s interesting, thanks for that info.
What part did you end up engraving?

I did the receiver on my first one. I'm going to do the barrel on the one I am waiting on the form 1 for. I'm just trying to find the right barrel first. My first one has just a bead sight, I'm trying to find a 14" one with rifle sights. Once I do I'll get that engraved.

A couple folks have done them on Ar15.com and they look amazing. A couple of folks have youtube videos. Very cool. I considered one when they were $800 but never pulled the trigger. If I had one, I'd do it.

On guns that you arent going to change barrels like shotguns it makes more sense to do the barrel. I did the barrel on my M2 Benelli for that reason.

This is my TAC-14 SBS and the TAC-14 I am waiting for form 1 approval on. It is kind of funny that both of these and the tax stamps cost less than a regular TAC-14 goes for now, if you can find one.

Well, I sold my TAC-14 many moons ago. I still have the mossberg shockwave.

Speaking of the Tac-14, I was curious about the going rate, and stumbled on this.

It let me add it to my cart and looked like it would let me proceed with checkout, but the site seems sketchy. But, I'm also assuming like everything else firearm related, these are mostly out of stock at other retailers? I haven't looked too deeply.

Does anyone want to give it a go?

anybody else remember how these were unpopular niche items and they were on fire sale for about a year straight?
those were the daaaaysss
they were unpopular because they were painful to shoot for most people. I dont know why. In any case put a stock on it its an SBS
.

I went to a 1980s retro match in Florida in 2019. It was essentially three gun using guns that were available prior to the 1994 AWB. There were several divisions but the most popular of them required the shotgun be pistol grip only. The most popular shotgun there was by far the TAC-14/Shockwave since at the time they were really cheap, easily available, and pistol grip only. Mossberg really should have been a sponsor of the match because it was probably the largest number of Shockwaves (way more of those than TAC-14s) being fired at any range anywhere.

The match was 12 stages over two days. It was really interesting to see how badly we did with the Shockwaves/TAC-14s at the beginning of the match and how they progressed to being quite effective as we gained experience. Still not ideal, but with practice the guns are definitely effective.
In addition to the two pictured above I have a 20 gauge Shockwave that I registered as an AOW. It is pistol grip only. I like it better with the Hogue pistol grip than I did with the bird's head grip. It is a lot easier to control in 20 gauge but less effective on targets (I used it at the retro match).

they were painful because people tried to line them up with cheek weld on a birdshead grip.
or they were gripping like they were using a 22 pistol and the recoil was juuuuust a bit tougher than expected.
I don't have problems with mine. but i also have mine on one of them knoxx recoil slide grips. Great camping gun. I very well may pick up a knockoff AR folding adapter and put a tube kit on it so I can use a brace. Or I may go all wood. I don't use it enough, but it's fun.
