My dad bought this is 1996. We didn’t use it much for the first few years until I started a lawn care business around 2000. I’ve since been through three sets of tires, numerous lights and it’s collected a few dings in the fenders. Dad had talked about painting it the last few years but we never got around to it. I loaned it to a “friend” Father’s Day weekend last year, 2 weeks before dad passed away. It then survived an equipment shed fire but got banged up pretty good. Jack got broke on it and welds got broken on a fender trying to get it outta the fire. I didn’t realize what had happened to it til about a month after the fire cause it was still at the farm where they had the fire. Guy promised to get it fixed. Fast forward to two weeks ago, I finally got it back after being gone for 10 months and me threatening to report it stolen cause no one would tell me where it was and when I was getting it back. It had been sandblasted and painted and the repairs made. I bought new boards for it Friday night and worked on it Saturday between rain showers and finished it today. Looks like a brand new trailer.
Day I got it back

New Decking boards on the sides

Start of the floor yesterday. Started and stopped a few times cause of rain and quit. I ordered a box of thread cutting torx head bolts to put the new boards down with. Started by getting under it and marking the existing holes which meant I had to put the board in place, mark the holes, flip it, drill, then flip again to put the bolts in. That got old quick. Had to rip a 2x6 down to start the pattern and finish it. That’s how they were on there originally.

After I got tired of getting under it and back up, I started drilling new holes from the top and bolting them down that way without getting under it. The last board was sammiched between two boards and I had to walk on it to get it to pop in place. They’re all nice and tight and it turned out great.

Of course, I needed wood that was just shy of 14ft, but 14’ treated lumber is unheard of. So I had to buy 16’ stuff. Now I’ve got a bunch of scraps that aren’t good for anything but bird houses

Looks really good Brian and congrats on getting it back together. Would this fire have been at the local misfits?

Good job.

Yep

Nice work. That refurb will last a long time.

No chance the fire got hot enough to effect the strength of the steel??

The boards may be tight now but in 3 months they'll look like a picket fence... Good job of resto...

Nah. It was one of the first things that got moved. Didn’t really affect the original paint. Just got beat up being moved around I’m guessing with a skid steer

My guess it got damaged when couple neighbors were dragging stuff out quickly trying to save it all which would be easy damage in a hurry. Think he was just hooking and booking with his tractor but didn’t have a whole lot of time to be to careful with the fire but most of the heat was all on the straw end of shed and doubt it was hurt. The Hay wagons and one tractor didn’t fair as well.

looks great. That was money well spent. Plus the sides. That is a nice touch, crap always falling off the sides… grrrr.

Good as new! Glad you didn't scrap it and start with a new one. We have salvaged several trailers, but none look as nice as yours!
