For some reason I have a hankering for one of these...

Who all has one, and what can you tell me about it? What kind if optics and accessories are recomended?

Excellent 223 bullpup. Assuming the user understands benefits and disadvantages of a bullpup, the x95 offers very high reliability and ergonomics. I’ve never had a stoppage with mine. issues with the rifle include:

1. unusual rail height which is too low for most optics mounting, requires either a riser or exchange of rail to achieve higher optics position.

2. buttstock pad is completely flat, creating a poor shoulder contact point and propensity to roll upward. There are aftermarket replacement curved buttpads. Much needed in my opinion.

3. cutlass style grip. Nothing inherently wrong with it, but there is tendency for fingers to slide behind the trigger as there’s technically no trigger guard. IWI sells pistol grip replacements that are not always in stock. It’s a good upgrade but not necessary depending on preferences.

4. difficult to suppress due to heavy overgassing. I run my X95 with an OSS flow through .30 cal can and it works very well. A standard 30 cal can like dead air sandman is functional. However a typical .223 bore suppressor will cause far too much overgassing to the piston with extraction ejection failures.

5. it is hard on brass.

6. they do not run well with steel case 223. ive never run mine but enough folks have had issues that I don’t bother.

other than these quirks, the X95 and original tavor SAR are phenomenal rifles. the longstroke system is excellent. In fairness I have no experience with the Steyr AUG so cannot comment on it although they also seem like an option to consider.

regarding your question about optics, I run mine with an aimpoint pro. I personally wouldnt bother with a magnified optic as prone position with a bullpup is fairly miserable to me. However a quality 1-4x like a P4Xi or trijicon TR24 would probably be good options assuming they’re mounted high enough.

I'm a bullpup fan, have a bunch. Just added a SA Hellion.

The Tavor is a great rifle. I have a Meprolight RDS on top (trying to keep the Israeli thing going) and it's at the correct height for my cheekweld.
I appreciate @92G 's concern about the straight buttstock/shoulder contact - but most of my AR's and AK's are the same way and it's not a problem for me at all.
Also, the ergonomics are slightly worse than an AUG, but much better than the Hellion. The Tavors feel much more compact, but is only about 1/2 shorter overall than the AUG and an inch shorter than the Hellion.

In the end, if you're a bullpup fan - you'll like it. I'm not planning on using any for competition, so the bullpup triggers don't bother me much. If it bothers you, there's aftermarket options.

Agree with the above, I run it with my SilencerCo Omega with the stock 30cal endcap.
I added the Manticore Arms gasketed port cover and the IWI pistol grip.

Thanks fellas! Appreciate the insight!

I Kinda like the idea of going with a meprolight rds or truvision..something along those lines..

This would be my first bullpup...theyre just something different that I dont have in the collection. Fwiw, Did play with a hellion, but omg..trigger was garbage compared to x95!

OP, I have two (one dark green and one FDE) and not only is there not much I can add to the forgoing I appreciate the heck out of all the info posted up in response to your request as I am learning a lot from the others’ posts!!!!!

One “reality” thing I’ll throw out is that, owning and having owned a lot of battle rifles (my first - early 80’s - was a IMI Galil ARM in .308 that I doubt I will ever stop regretting selling on consignment - right before the Bush ban on imports, no less!) is that, I now go into every purchase fully aware I am not buying a moa rifle. For moa shooting I have other rifles (AR platforms, Garands, M1A’s, bolt guns, etc.)

Rather, the AK’s, ACE (in 556) etc are in my family’s (and thereby my heirs’) collections for the sheer reliability - dependability - “can’t kill em with an axe” factors.

Congrats and Best o’ Success in your venture - God Bless America (and Thank You, IMI - IWI :) !!!!!

I've been X95 curious since it came to the US market, but have yet to pull the trigger on one. It's a bullpup battle rifle so not everyone's cup of tea. Here is one Guntubers opinion:

Here's a picture of mine with a Meprolight on top. I've since swapped the optic out for a Burris MTAC 1 - 4 x 24 due to eye issues.

I also have been after the standard grip for over a year and a half and finally got one from IWI. With the bayonet grip I sometimes find my finger slipping behind the trigger.

Lately with all the brace nonsense going on, I've really been considering one of these. Looks as short as possible while not having to file. I've only shot one stock and liked it, but was told the drop in geissele really completes the package.

Still havent picked one up yet, was wonder what might pop up from the SHOT show.
Still on my want list!
