I met up with my parents and aunt late Thursday night (2am) in Wildwood, NJ after a 7+hr drive. My parents traveled 17hrs from Wisconsin with their ‘30 Ford Roadster in tow.
The Race of Gentlemen was hosting its annual beach racing event in NJ. The “race” is all about having fun with loud, old steel on 2 and 4 wheels. The weekend started off with a hotrod and motorcycle show in downtown. There were pre-1935 American bikes and hot rods as far as you could see. Beer flowed while the sound of open header flatheads filled the air.
Saturday started at 6:30am with a participant vehicle parade into the event that ran several streets, under the boardwalk and to the beach where the racing would commence. Sunday was another early morning repeat.
The entire weekend was just awesome. Dad made 6 passes down the beach drag strip. He won some; he lost some. Every pass left him grinning ear to ear.
Here are a few pics. Despite being in NJ, it’s a pretty awesome event!!!
It was downright awesome!!! I’m tempted to sell the CJ7 to begin the financing of a flathead hot rod. If my folks go, I may join them at the one in Santa Barbara. I’m guessing the CA TROG cars will blow the NJ ones away.
