Why is it-- and other similar style rifles-- so great?

Using that logic, my AR-9 is even better.

But don’t even get me started on my AR-57 and hoo-boy that AR-410 in my safe.

I just haven’t figured out how to compare AR vs AK. Lower number = earlier letter in the alphabet?
 
Let's pretend the OP isn't a troll for a second.

The AR platform is 'so great' because of its modularity and extreme versatility. .22lr to .50Cal. 3.5 pound PDW to 20# precision rifle. It can do it all.

Now that we're done pretending he/she/they/them isn't a troll, we can get back to the shenanigans.

Additionally, it is an excellent platform for women and less muscular shooters due to low recoil, adjustable stocks for shorter arms, extensive amount of accessories and options, and relatively light weight.

TBH, I'm not sure. I don't own one and have only fired one at the range once. Really trying to understand the fascination with them...and why they seem to be the firearm of choice used for these mass shootings.

I'm not trolling. That versatility does makes sense. In terms of self-defense in close range-- like in a house, would you say it's better than a handgun?

But for portability, a CC handgun seems better suited.
In home use, will it send bullets flying through walls or do they make hollow points in those calibers?
