I haven't seen a thread like this, and thought it might be a good idea to have members post some "cheap" (as in substantially less than top tier brands) accessories they have taken a chance on and turned out to be impressed by the quality.

Typically you get what you pay for, but if you're like me you've probably tried a lot of expensive options only to be somewhat disappointed and regret not giving some other stuff a shot.

Off the top of my head:

Kley Zion quick adjust 2pt slings w/QD swivels
Kley Zion offset light mount
Expo Arms aluminum MLOK rail sections

I don't understand what this means lol.

I've heard some of the UTG "Pro" stuff is actually decent stuff, but I haven't been that ballsy. Something like a rail is not anything I would likely skimp on...but I'd be interested to hear from you all about that too.

I have a chicom SBA3 knockoff coming this way I hope I can add to this thread. Fingers crossed.

Edited my post to make sense. Joe used to bash the hell outta utg pro hand guards. They’re actually very solid.

Random Chineseum rail from mystery eBay sellers hasn't failed me yet for welding to parts kit abominations

UTG makes a nice 45 degree offset mount for RMR/Holosun. Solid, simple, lightweight.

I put a UTG Pro rail on my PSA COVID build. I bought one of their M4A1 receivers in 2019, and right after our office closed in March 2020 decided to start ordering parts for it. Not sure I could have gotten away with putting it together at work, but working from home had some advantages.

I also like the Vortex Sparc AR red dot I have on top as a 'good and cheap' red dot option. It's not the same quality as the Aimpoint on my "social' SBR, but works well for the price.

Tapco AR castle nut wrench was surprisingly stout.
korean AK and glock mags ran like they should.
$16 rubber 1911 grips were extremely ”grippy”

I got one of these CVLife bipods off Amazon and so far, I have been pleased with it. I figured for less than $20, it was worth a shot. Ordered it and it was delivered about 7 hours later.

I've been looking to throw one of these on an AK I have. I sold my Aimpoint PRO but still have the side mount and a handful of DL 1/3N batteries.

For a tiny bit more money you can get a holosun that's miles ahead of that

I have converted to the church of holosun. You get a lot for what you pay for. Chinese unfortunately but not made of Chineseum

Well, the issue is I need the 30mm tube to fit this side mount, and the only Holosun that's a 30mm tube wouldn't fit this mount due to how the battery compartment is; it's more similar to a CompM4. So I'd need either another PRO or the PA. I'm not aware of any other options.

Doesn't Holosun actually make PA red dots? I thought they were just private labeled. I could be wrong, but that was my understanding.

I had a conversation with another member about Holosun vs. US made optics recently. I hate the idea of putting Chinese stuff on my weapons, but Holosun has done a great job of beating the snot out of the American market. Trijicon has rested on their name for so long that their R&D has been lacking. The most important thing to me is if the device can take a beating and some of the Holosuns have really proven themselves.

I mean I don't think either of them really make anything. It's all contracted out to over seas

I put a UTG handguard on my MR556 same mounting as the original, good piece of kit. I really hated that short handguard with the twigs and berries rail. I have not shot it yet, or the and the POF Revolution, the ghetto blaster etc...

My experience is cheap is good until it’s not. So if it‘s a vital item Murphy will arrive at some point.

To me things should be purpose driven. If it is a range toy then you can afford to have something not be 100% because nothing is on the line. If you are talking about duty or carry gear then there are more serious considerations. To me that does not always mean it has to be expensive it just has to be good.

My time is limited on Earth and so valuable to me. I do not enjoy messing with shoddy crap on the range or anywhere. Time spent fixing extractors, springs and other crap could be spent reading, drinking, exercising or fondling something soft. 😁

Well I think plastic mags should cost $5 so we could argue that one. But, yes, Magpul is a great value.
Good glassfiber plastics is hell on molds. Hard to get the price down to garbage plastic levels

This is a >good< and cheap thread…not a “will probably cause a lot of problems at the range and not be worth it” thread.

Another one I’ve found to really like is Primary Arms optics. Great for everything I’ve needed them for from range to competition and even some training classes.

You are correct. In this day and age we should defer to the Chinese made products that will suffice most of the time. My bad. I’ll bow out now to the more experienced. I read the thread wrong. Good night folks.

Me and my communist Chinese collection are gonna pretend we didn't hear that slander. My sks has enough war crimes under its belt to have proven itself and the type 56 kicked the a1s ass

While I have built many ARs with Poverty Pony (Anderson) and PSA parts, I have to say that for a little more money, the Aero Precision stuff is grand.

If you do the math, buying Aero parts isn't that much more than PSA but you get a really great AR-15 when you put one together with Aero precision parts.

The LaRue MBT triggers are also excellent for the money. I was getting the 2 stage flat triggers for $85 there for a long while. I hate to admit it, but they are as good as many of the 2 stage $300 triggers I've used.

It's strange to imagine how far we've come with AR-15s. About 20 years ago, you had to pay over $1k for a lousy Bushmaster M4gery that was not gently assembled, to put it mildly. Should have seen some of the machine marks on my old Bushmaster. It was my first AR. When I snagged a PSA Classic for a good deal one day, I compared the two. It was amazing how much nicer the PSA was. Of course I paid far less for the PSA and it was a better rifle.

I picked up one of these offset backup sights and was really surprised how well it worked. Went back and purchased 2 more.

I'm running cheap Amazon special "cool hand" grips on my cz p01 they work well.

Not sure if I'd call the larue trigger cheap but they are very high quality. They have raised their prices recently, but worth it.

While I learned my lesson early on about cheap optics (Tasco, Simmons, BSA, etc) there is an exception I think is worth mentioning. Many years ago I was active on RimfireCentral.com and several guys used the Simmons 22 Mag scopes, and I never heard any complaints. I picked up a fixed 4x for a lightweight 10/22 build in the $25 range (we're talking blister pack optics here, lol) and it has not disappointed. I also got the 3-9x on a QD mount I keep in the case with my CMR-30 when I need to see a little farther and so far it's g2g. Primary motivation for both of them is their light weight, but costing next to nothing doesn't hurt. Wouldn't put them on any defensive or competition guns.

While on cheap magnified optics let me also say that many applications don't require more than just holding zero. For low to mid range and low to mid recoil applications you can get away with optics that probably wouldn't pass a box test, but if you get a graduated reticle you don't need to spin turrets. I've had good success with the inexpensive Bushnell AR scopes for those scenarios, I just zero them and leave them be.

I’ll drop it in here as well, it’s not really a gun accessory, but I have to sing it’s praises when I can. Morakniv knives are freaking outstanding and for their price point you can buy a dozen and just leave them one drawers, vehicles, range bags, diaper bags, and purses.

Where are you buying them? Their website is all in commie dollar

The Arisaka Optics Leveler is one of the best sub $40 purchases I’ve ever made. Simple genius design.
