So I'll raise my hand right off the bat and admit it, I've been accused of being a Jean-Claude Van Damme fan. I've seen Bloodsport probably 50 times over the years, as well as Kickboxer, Timecop etc. multiple times. Yes, most of the stuff after his salad days have been terrible but a couple years ago he had the "Jean-Claude Van Johnson" series (one season on Amazon) which was actually pretty good.

So I went into watching this new Netflix movie "The Last Mercenary" with a slight bit of hope.

Ehh, not so good IMO. It wasn't SO terrible that I'd rather have been mowing the lawn but I'm glad it was essentially freebie on Netflix; if I'd paid anything beyond a standing subscription I'd be miffed.

Action not that great, story kind of stretched. I think it was a dubbed film originally in French and it had a bit of that typical French slapstick to it. I'd say 3 splits out of 10 (and yes, he did one split in it, but maybe it was CGI).

If you haven't seen it, watch Jean-Claude Van Johnson on Amazon instead of this one.

so, it wasn't great, but didn't make you go blind either?

sounds like a perfect background movie
