So my dad wasnt a wealthy man monetarily, but he had a wealth of knowledge and was always teaching. A lot of them I will use to fix this and pass them along as well.
My oldest son in 9 and has a lot of fond memories in this little red truck. Well today I decided I couldn't let it sit any longer, mainly needs a good cleaning, some vacuum lines, new front seat and to get the dash lights sorted out.
A new bed, grill, bumper, front windshield and fender will come in good time. It got a quick bath yesterday, we (the 9yo and I) checked the fuses and got part of the dash lights working. We will pull the dash and the rest of the interior tomorrow for cleaning and to put in new dash lights. The interior is going to get a color change(dye), most likely to black.
The old man lost his right eye in Korea so the right side of the truck has more bumps and dings then I care to count, but luckily all but two of them are in the bed and front fender, the two in the cab are going to be fun to fix due to location.
The main plan with it right now is to get it fully road worthy and use it as a daily driver.
Specs: 1996, Toyota tacoma ext cab, 2wd, 2.7 4cyl.

Yeah he got it brand new in 96, wouldn't trade it for anything

my dad has only bought one new vehicle in his life. A 1986 dodge D50, he hit a deer with 8 miles on the odometer taking it to show his dad. Did 1500 dollars damage and they could never get the color to match. H would still have it if he bought a Toyota.

Let it run for a while today after replacing spark plugs and fixing a pile vaccuum leaks, the idle cleared up and it's running smooth.
Pulled the spark plugs to check how it was running and everything looked good. Let the kid get his hands dirty again (like I had a choice) he was pulling the plug on #4

Future mini-trucker right there. Go ahead and buy him an angle grinder and a welder. I see a big ole c notch and bags in the future.

Them dents..I dunno but I think I'd leave them. Like wrinkles in blue jeans, it's supposed to look like that. :)
Plus bonus, no matter where you park no-one will park next to you.
Lol, we have talked about doing that but the front headlight is about to fall out cause the fender is dented that bad, I want it as close to new again as I can get it.

We have a stick and a mig welder, he has watched me lay some down, I'll start giving him lessons this summer most likely. He is all things "dude", he lives a fairly sheltered life being on the farm, but if its trucks, tractors, or dirtbikes he is going to be in the middle of it. Talking to him you wouldnt know it at first he is not a boy of many words until he gets a good read on you.

If I had learned to weld at 9, nobody could have told me a damn thing. I had a welder around that age but electric was never ran for it, my folks were sure I would burn the house down.
