There goes the new Dune film

I saw it over the weekend, and I loved every moment of it. I felt the movie did a great job of telling the story, even if it did have to leave out a few things, like the purpose of the Mentats, or how the Bene Gesserit came to be.

I felt the actor playing Paul did a pretty good job too. I think it makes him more interesting to not have him be too confident.

Giving this one a shot…before it disappears from HBO Max

Never seen any of the previous stuff or read any of the books. Going in with very low expectations.

I enjoyed it. I never could get into the David Lynch Dune.

The volume of the movie was definitely a little weird, some of the dialogue was so quiet and action was very loud. I had to turn on the closed captions to understand them.

Yep it pretty well sucked balls man. That was the worst ending I think I've ever seen.
Watch the original and “uncut” version and get back to me.

It stands the test of time.

I’ve just gotta.

Neither one of us enjoyed it. No way I’d watch it again.

Saw it tonight. Wasnt terrible, Agree with about everyone's comments. I feel like I missed alot of dialog due to the whispering, maybe I'm going deaf....dunno. thought that boy wasnt a good fit. Mom was hot.

Never seen any of the Dune movies or material before. Thought the cinematography was good. Felt like I was watching BlackHawk Down, Jarhead and Hurt Locker all mixed into one. Those dragonfly helos were kinda neat.

Tried watching the 1984 version last night. Tried. Failed. It’s freaking painful and boring.

The miniseries was good. They did Children of Dune also... the cast wasnt my favorite (Paul, Piter, Feyd) but then other choices were great (The Baron).

Nailed it with The Baron. He owned that role.

I thought all of Baron Harkonnen's entourage were well done in the miniseries each conveying a sort of psychopathy. The actor playing Rabban seemed to convey that archetype of the likes-to-hurt-small-animals kid now grown to bigger and better targets; with Piter, I thought the actor conveyed an abstracted, almost bored sort of amoral behavior - like a mafia Don. And Feyd-Rautha the I'm-too-sexy-for-my-shirt arrogance that was probably justified: evil rejoicing in its own power.

But yeah, Ian McNeice nailed the role of the Baron.

Some I didn't care for were Chani, Stilgar, and, in Children of Dune, Leto II. Not sure what to make of the Reverend Mother Mohiam: I like the aesthete approach with her, but she just looked too much like Shelly Duval.

Saw the new dune last Sunday. Thought it was pretty good. Disappointing having to wait forever for the second half. But I will watch it when it does.

so THIS is why i could not hear some of what they said......

"I used to be able to understand 99% of the dialogue in Hollywood films.
But over the past 10 years or so, I've noticed that percentage has dropped significantly
— and it's not due to hearing loss on my end."

You have cliffs notes for this. I was 10 minutes into reading and bored to tears with this guys presentation and so far all I’ve got is career suicide to talk about it and mixing issues.

I am at the theater going on what feels like hour 16 of this God-awful never ending steaming pile of poo.

Who have I offended to deserve this punishment?

Edit: dragon fly choppers are cool

I admit to only glancing at this article, but even that brief contact left me wanting to watch Lion in Winter and/or Becket and/or Man for All Seasons for a dose of dialogue driven entertainment.

lol, glad it wasn't just me. I read it and felt like I was trying to understand dialogue in a modern movie the whole time.
