They Picked The Wrong House

I will say this. Living out of the city now, and 5 miles from the nearest town, and over 300 yards off the closest road, we are much less cautious. This may be a mistake, and I recognize what meth has done to the rural landscape, but the people here are just nicer. Crimes of opportunity are just less likely here. I have firearms available close by and keep a loaded 12 gauge pump in the bedroom closet, but worry less about this kind of stuff.

Am I being naive? It is a serious question.

Crime can and will happen anywhere. Some folks may be emboldened by the lower population density. By time they make it down down your 300 yard driveway, it's just you and them.

I had a situation when I lived in Texas. Bad guy comes to the door. I was carrying at the time and ordered him to the ground. Bad guy was not stupid and he complied. Called 911 and the lady said let him go. They were afraid I would kill him.BTW- I did allow him to use his cell to call 911 also. could not understand why they wanted me to let him go. Later found out they had the neighborhood surrounded and caught him a block away. He went straight to jail on multiple warrants. I Lasts I heard he was serving time and a cop came by to thank me for helping catch him. He was a bit miffed that i caused the guy to piss his pants thou :) The moral of this story- Carry at home too!

I keep my shotgun handy all the time. Especially when I'm outside at night at my fire pit. My house is back in the woods and a few years ago, I was out there when these two very large Presa Canario dogs ran up out of the woods and into my yard about thirty feet from me. They had gotten loose from someone's yard somewhere outside of our neighborhood. They both had wide studded collars on. They just stood there looking at me. All I had was a splitting ax to protect myself. One of them took off down my driveway and turned and back into the woods. The other one just stood there for about 10 seconds staring at me. He finally took off after the other one and they were gone. It could have been a bad night for me had they turned on me. So my shotgun stays loaded and handy all of the time when I'm home.

Did you shit yourself? Those are some big ass dogs. All it would've taken was one to come at you the others coming too.

Just about did. About 10 minutes before they showed up, my cat was out there with me and he started acting strange and ran up behind the house and disappeared for awhile. He knew something wasn't right. He knew they weren't deer because he wouldn't have ran off if they were deer. These were big muscular dogs like pit bulls on steroids. Lots of farmland near where I live so I imagine they got loose from someone's property.
