this looks like a nice deal?

Honestly, PSA has turned into a pretty great company. When I get new people into ARs I generally point them to PSA. Ive heard good things about their AKa as well. They have come allong way the past 10 years.

Gen5, hinged dust cover with rear peep sight, enhanced safety lever, I am liking what I see here!

At this point in the evolution of the PSAK-47 (the 74 is a bit of another story), most of the human beta testing has been accomplished. The GF5 includes a lot of nice features not available on previous versions, and for about a grand after taxes, S&H, and transfer fees this is tough to beat for a blaster, non-investment AK. And I'm glad to see PSA finally including a cleaning rod.

Obligatory IUHoosier429's "imports > domestics" but yeah, if you want to dip your toes into the AK world or give your quality Arsenals, VEPRs, etc. a round count break, I'd say what the hell and go for one of these.

Looks pretty sweet to me. I'm an AK novice, but everything I read says the newer PSAs are good to go.

Keep reading ;) There are plenty of horror stories out there about PSAKs, with new chapters written all the time. PSA scrubs social media content fairly regularly, and Reddit is the needle exchange of the AK world. But there are quite a few documented cases of PSAK failures on the AK Files, the AK Forum, and other, more seasoned Kalashnikov sources.

I agree the early models are pretty bad. I think most of the issues are ironed out now. Fully forged trunnion with a chrome lined barrel its a pretty sweet deal. Personally I would spend the extra 2-300 to get a zpap Zastava. If I had the option between this and a Wasr ide probably pick the Psa.

@Kogarth agreed, especially regarding the FN barrel. FWIW, my new ZPAP had rivet and cant issues, and went back for warranty work that wasn't super easy to convince Zastava USA to agree to. When it returned, the rivets were addressed but the cant remains.

I'm biased to Romanians for no good reason (as I sit here typing this in my Cugir t-shirt), but if I had to pick between a WASR, ZPAP, or this PSAK for a "cheap" range gun or for SHTF, personally I'd choose the WASR 100% of the time.

The ak files would find all sorts of slurs to throw at you for saying nice things about psa.

Meh, depends on the poster. There's not much love lost over there, that is for certain. And the vitriol has only worsened since PSA dropped its vendor status, tucked tail and ran away from the Files. So it definitely deserves a lot of the crap thrown its way. But I do own a couple PSAKs and have defended my guns over there with next to no flak taken. I'm not a PSA fanboy whatsoever and can only comment on the guns in my hand, but they've all been fine so far.

Also, it's damn near impossible to make it through the first page of literally any thread on the Files without it devolving into a morass of slurs of one form or another.

Reminds me of USA Carry forum. The most innocent posts would devolve into huge fights over nothing in a second.
