Heat treated a hawk and three blades. Profiled a machete that I will be working on at some point. Just too cold to grind, since I do that outside. Kinda difficult to see the small blades because of the stained cover.
I’m thinking about putting rubber handles on the WK inspired blade.

The three blades and hawk are 80CRV2. The machete is 1075 and hasn’t been heat treated yet. I heat treat following mfg recommendations.

What kind of heat treatment will the machete get and how does that compare/contrast with that of a typical knife blade?

I know that machetes are generally intentionally made from a relatively soft, non-hardened steel in order to make them both durable and very easy to field sharpen with a few strokes of a file. They aren't intended to "carry an edge" like a pocket knife should.

This machete will be heat treated very similar in nature to the other blades. I have the specs dialed on my heat treat oven. As per the chart above - the higher the tempering temperature the hardness goes down. This will be more of a chopper machete in that it is going to be thicker and heavier. The edge geometry will be for chopping , which can take abuse without rolling.
