Thoughts on the CMMG dedicated 22LR upper

how accurate do you need?
I basically boresighted mine and then went about blasting steel at 20 yards. I don't seem to have any problems hitting the 3" heart target or hostage taker head target with regularity.

just buy one. with 5.56 at 50cpr right now, and 22lr still at 5cpr, you're saving 45 cents with each shot. it pays for itself in a couple hundred shots.

A dedicated .22LR upper is a pretty significant upgrade over a conversion kit. Dedicated uppers are purpose-built for .22LR, minimizing potential reliability issues associated with conversion kits. They typically feature dedicated barrels, bolts, and chambers, optimizing performance for the .22LR. This means better accuracy, reliability, and overall function compared to a converted centerfire upper.

I love mine and it's more accurate than I am even with a 4" barrel.

I'd love to have one of these, just can't justify $750 for an upper.

$325 for barrel and bolt

Three years ago I bought a 9" CMMG style barrel from Right to Bear, their model RTB22LR9M. My intent was to improve accuracy compared to a couple other uppers I have dedicated to 22LR use. These 2 uppers use old 5.56 barrels with a Ciener chamber adapter.

The CMMG style barrel has the proper twist rate and bore diameter and delivered a big improvement in the accuracy department over the 5.56 barrels. TBH the 5.56 barrels have spent most of their lives on a full auto lower and are simply bullet hoses but they'll chew up cans & ring steel at 25 to 50 yards no problem.

I had not been able to get the CMMG barrel to function on one of my M16 setups so I shelved it for the past few years. I dug it back out a few months ago and slapped it on a semi lower and took it to the range. While I didn't spend much time wringing it out I was pleased with the clover leaf groups it delivered at 35 yards. It is accurate enough that I'm considering using it for some small game / varmint / pest control work.
