I've been shooting a semi auto (Mossberg 930 and now Beretta 1301) for years now in local 3 gun. I've come to trust the reliability of the modern semi auto. Never shoot the pump guns in matches anymore. Recently sold the 308 rifles so don't need the pump guns for heavy metal 3 gun. I wonder if it's worth trying to keep the muscle memory up with them with training or just ditch them (Have 2 590's with threaded barrels) and buy a Semi. Either a 940 pro (18.5"), Beretta A300 Patrol, Beretta 1301, or even the new Remington V3 tactical. Would be primarily a bedroom gun that I'd use as the backup 3 gun shotgun and might shoot a match or two with it to make sure it ran as expected. The downside to the V3 tactical is it is a fixed improved cylinder (not enough for 3 gun in a 18.5" barrel, IMHO). The 940, 300, and V3 are all @1K new and the 1301 will be @$1300-1400 if I can find a used one. Or I could buy the Benelli M4 listed here (LOL) but I've heard that it doesn't like light load bird shot. Not sure the 1301 is worth the extra money, but I do trust the platform after running it hard for the last @2 years.

Which of the shotguns mentioned would you recommend? Or should I just keep one of the pump guns and practice with it every other month?

Thanks in advance.

OK. Contrary to popular opinion I think I'm going to sell both of these and either buy shorter barreled 1301 or A300. Is the 1301 worth the extra money for a gun that is primarily for HD and secondarily a backup 3 gun shotgun? Also, how important is it to stick with a bead versus ghost rings? If I primarily shoot a bead, will the ghost rings slow me down enough to warrant buying the 1301 (21") over the A300?

Thanks in advance.

Ghost rings on a a300 will be more than good for what you’re wanting it for.
Maybe a 940 jm tactical?

You simply cannot go wrong with a 1301

Pumps will work with almost any load while autoloaders will choke on the lightest payloads. That for one IMO is a good reason to keep one around.
