Thought I'd give this a try before I bought it to put in my kit that resides in my truck.

All I all it tastes pretty good, and only takes ten minutes to "cook".
The flavor is even, the two heaviest ingredients are peas, and beef, and I can't complain.
It was so good I ate nearly all of it, there's just enough left to make a good snack.

Mountain house is good stuff.

Try the lasagna.
Yep. The lasagna and chili Mac are the shit. I have a whole closet of #10 cans of mountain house stuff.

I’ll use it to supplement the taste of the neighbors when the time comes

Freeze-dried camp food is ok, but 90% of it never seems to hydrate/cook "just right." It's almost always too dry/crunchy or a soggy mess.

(As far as long-term storage emergency food goes, sure! But it gets pricey.)

I've recently started "downgrading" my camping food options, looking for ways to save a buck and still have some variety. I hope this doesn't wander too far off topic.

This was my dinner last Tuesday on a paddle-camp trip:

The Hereford brand meatballs in sauce was $3 at Cuisine de Leon. They come in a foil pack that you drop in boling water; as you can see, a 500ml pot worked. I also boiled about 1/2 cup (dry) tricolor rotini. The squash was a not-walking-in splurge. It was easy, and plenty of food! 460 cal for the meatballs + whatever the pasta was.

Hereford also makes roast beef, taco meat, and brisket pre-cooked in the foil packs; heat & eat. They'd be heavy for backpacking, but great in a truck stash or other mobile venture. No refrigeration needed.

You mean, give you the shits. :p

Years ago, I worked at a store called coconuts (Music - cassettes, CDs, video games, etc). I was working with the boss lady, Beth, and we ordered a pizza from a local joint. After eating she didn’t feel well and kept saying we got a shitty pizza. Finally she said, ”I’ll be back and went into the back room for a while”. She same out and I said, “shitty pizza?” She turned ten shades of crimson and nodded yes,

I have other food stuffs already kitted out in the floor storage in my truck, but I like variety lol.
Many years ago a friend of mine brought me some "astronaut " food from Kennedy Space Center, if memory serves it was freeze dried chicken and rice, and it was so good I hated that it was eaten after it was all gone.
Truth be told, I've had my fair share of pizza that was also a laxative, and MREs stopping me up completely, but the former has always proved to be the cook and manager......
Hell, you can do the laxative routine to yourself if you're a careless cook.....

Had to many dips of brisket and my wife made us a roast beef for sandwiches today too.
