US forces are being deployed to Poland. Those who are type O are being ordered to donate blood before the deployment.
Comes from a current serving officer. Granted, the officer may have broken security protocol. 😉

Wag the dog 2.0 is obvious.
Criminal investigation cranking up. Must start a war with Russia to stop the investigation.

I mean… I know someone who deployed there a month ago (I think Poland) and they’re basically hanging out so we have troops in the area. Is it stepping up/escalating? Sure, maybe. Or maybe not.

We have had rotational forces going there for YEARS. A lot of sitting around and training stuff, lots of gunnery for the Apaches and some combined arms with the host nation forces. Type O guys are ALWAYS being asked to donate blood, too. I don't know if we are giving any to Ukraine at the moment but we very well might be.

I don't think we will have any direct involvement. Much cheaper/easier for us to finance the Ukrainians and offload some of our older gear, or even get new gear combat-tested, at their expense. We sent forces there to 'deter' Russian aggression after Crimea and when they crossed the border again we... didn't do anything different. Still the same ol routine of training exercises and officers writing themselves ARCOMs and bronze stars for their efforts.

I am over in the region right now and it is pretty much just hanging around and doing some joint training.
Do they have Doner Kebap in Poland or is that only a German thing? Had a buddy who went up to Poland. He said the exchange rate is nice but there isn't a lot to do near the posts that are there.

I don't think they have very much of that, that's mostly a German thing because of the large influx of Turks.

I am not sure, my time in Poland was very short. I am spending most of my time between Hungary and Slovakia so it is a lot of goulash and pork products.

Especially when the infrastructure is lacking and cannot provide much additional medical support.

We'd deploy organic; self-sustained for a minimum of 90 days with no help. We'd never rely on the often extremely unreliable host nations. But also, our numbers were a lot smaller and we we often never in the same place for long, so I can see that rationale for the army.

Without going to much into the details they didn't prepare much for medical or really any sustainment for that manner.

Do you know how many people say that about your posts 😆
I’m sure there are tons..except they can’t help but look at it because they have an urge to see what it is I’m posting.

I think its odd we keep rotating units there. I think they have even done feasibility studies that just standing up some of the deactivated brigades/units in Europe would be WAY more cost effective.

This article is from 2017: https://www.armytimes.com/news/your...its-overseas-is-cheaper-than-troop-rotations/

If anyone wants some more in-depth info or has trouble falling asleep, there is this handy guide: https://www.jstor.org/stable/pdf/resrep12066.8.pdf which is also from 2017.
I do agree that it would be much cheaper. Not sure if it really outweighs the costs but doing the rotations trains units on how to pack out their stuff, rail head equipment, and occupy new locations which is something we didn't really have to worry about over the last decade or so.

I hope you can have a chance to enjoy your time there I wish you the best of luck and peace.

What security protocol has your friend breached by stating that we have troops over there...when we've had troops over there for a long time?

Absolutely none. He’s just saying random stuff again..

On European soil since 1944. And a lot of them never rotated home. :(

My dad was stationed in Germany when Ivan built the Berlin Wall.

Deployment orders are generally not supposed to be talked about. Particularly in politically sensitive cases like this. The media has not reported much on anything that could reflect poorly on Hidin' Biden.

That definitely used to be the case, especially in the days before social media. I mean, when my dad was deployed we knew when he was leaving. When I was being deployed, I knew, my family knew. WRAL posts every time a non-SOCOM unit deploys out of Bragg. Not sure it really matter anymore.

I think our generals call the enemy now directly to let them know.

My dad was part of the occupation forces and was in various places in Germany for a couple years. Pretty sure he was there in mid 1945. I'll have to look at his pilots log book

I was in Berlin ten years before the Wall fell. Lots of Wall Patrols exchanging rocks and buckets of crap.

My uncles was in Berlin in the early/mid-60s. Had the below patch, custom embroidered by a shop in Germany. He still has that patch, which I asked him for when he dies. He loved his time there,.
