UFC 244, 500TH Live Event, at the Garden, 1st Evah BADDEST Mutha... Belt in Combat Sports. DIAZ MASVIDAL
Who you got? The Stockton Slapper or the Miami Back Yard Brawler?

Honestly, this is the first fight I'd ever put money on Nate Diaz. Never really been a fan before, partly because of who he is and mainly because I was a bigger fan of who he was fighting. For this fight I feel like he has better focus and the advantage of being in the big time fights before. Masvidal seems to be more caught up in the hype (maybe that's just my impression based on the YouTube vlog's). Nate definitely has the advantage if it goes to the ground but I think they both will try to keep it standing due to the nature of the belt.
Anywho, both guys are grinders and have been in the game for a while. It should be a good fight!

Weird, I never seem to get these alerts. Just stumbled on this.

Definitely a fan fight. They both have traveled the world fighting and Jorge has actually had quite a few more fights and has been fighting slightly longer. I like both guys a lot. I think Diaz, in conceptualizing and spearheading this fight, in addition to his recent slapdown of USDSA, has shown that his speech impediment is masking a very smart and shrewd dude. I've always been a fan but that has only grown since his last few fights and his unwillingness to be a patsy for Dana White. He was told by Dana that he is "not a needle mover" and have proven that to be untrue in every way. Basically calling his own shots now and Dana has no choice but to fall in line.

For the actual fight, if they just stand and bang I think the volume of Diaz just sucks the life out of people. Jorge is fit as well, but he's going to need to make big statements early, before these 100 punches/round start piling up on his face. Diaz boxing is dangerous. Because basically he throws tons of "changeups". Where he lobs a lot of slowballs, then he puts a heater on you that looks just like the last slowball, until it smashes your face. It's sneaky and effective. And ever the paddycake shots pile up the damage.

Jorge, as we've seen, can be explosive and is just tough as hell. He's not as good as Diaz on the ground, but he's still very dangerous and can do a lot of damage from the top. He only has 2 sub victories, but lets not forget one was when he choked out Michael Chiesa, one of the best BJJ grapplers in the UFC. So, he has ground skills. So who knows what he is going to do?

So, IDK. I guess if I had to bet money, maybe it would be Diaz. Just want to see a great fight. I am glad both of these dudes are getting paid. I hope they get rich. They've been in the trenches for 15 years now!

Nate has definitely changed my perception of him as far as intelligence goes. I think you're right, his speech makes him seem dumber than he actually is. I loved his answer when a reporter asked him if he could retire after this fight, he said, I don't need the money for this fight!
They asked Jorge what he thought about Trump coming to the fight and he basically said that he was a fan of Trump but didn't want to get too political and upset his Latino fans.
Really looking forward to the fight!

Well, Jorge's dad made a harrowing near death boat trip across the ocean from Cuba to escape Castro. They hate communists with a passion. His dad said he'd decided at around 14 that he would rather die than live in a communist country. He landed here, got into drugs Tony Montana style, and did 18 years in prison. I guess he didn't have marketable skills, lol. Maybe did what he had to do in the banana boat environment of 70's Miami at the time. But got out and turned it around. Interesting story. Jorge's mom told him his dad was in the army.

There's a pretty cool interview with both of them. I found it interesting, anyway. Dad ended up achieving the American dream via his son!
