IMG_20180603_215403344.jpg picked up this Colt from a guy a few months ago , who hadn't taken care of it ,he left it stored in a leather holster in a closet for a few years, and if you didn't already guess the rust monster got it, not as bad as I've seen but bad enough.
Today thanks to @Dilligas it is sporting a flat main spring housing which he supplied free of charge.
Next up a Ambie safety, long trigger, beaver tail and new hammer all this work I'll do myself, but the final two steps I'll leave to a local smith, which is cutting new dovetails for the Novak sights, then cleaning up the pitting and give it a new blued Finish.
Yeah I know it a shame to build one of these old Colts, but the bigger shame was leaving in that holster all those years.
In a month or two I'll try to update the thread with the finished product

Back when I didn't know what I didn't know I inherited a Colt and left it in a safe in a Hunter leather holster in a locked cabinet in my tool room attached to the house for maybe ten years. The brass rivets in the holster all turned green, I mean like they were growing penicillin or something, but amazingly there was little to no sign of corrosion on the pistol.

Slide to frame fit is "generous" as apparently Colts are known for, but it's a great shooter. I ultimately did some of the work you are talking about doing. Novak sight cuts, fit beavertail and thumb safety, magwell, adjust trigger to 4lbs.

And if I may humbly and respectfully say, this thread is useless without more pictures. :)

I have a use for that trigger and hammer if you’re not planning to keep them, maybe the MSH as well.

Since I seem to run a home for wayward colts , I'll probably have a use for the parts myself

I'll add more photoswhen it's finished or along the way, what most of you should realize by now ,is I'm good with guns, but Im terrible at photography,

To each his own!

I'd like it better with the original equipment, sans rust of course!
Ive got a couple of original Colts with the 70 series firing system that are in excellent shape, so I figured since this one was in rough shape I'd just turn it into a shooter, and for that to happen I'll need to upgrade the sights, when I was younger I didn't mind the original sights but now I can't see them.

Novak can mill the slide install the sights and rebule it.
