Back at the beginning of March Maegan was hit while working traffic at a house fire in Pamilco Co. A driver was not paying attention and came around the engine without seeing her and hit her. She was kept in a medical coma for over a month with a brain injury along with other serious injuries. This 20 year old girl had to spend a long time with little interaction from family and friends trying to deal with memory issues as well because of COVID-19 ... imagine waking up and having to deal with things while being pretty much quarantined.

Anyway she came home today ... over 4 months later with still a long road both physically and mentally. Guys, she’s 20 years old and her family is not rich ... the VFD and other local groups have done Pass The Boot, meals, etc but her bills for surgeries, almost 2 month in ICU and so on she’s still got a pile of bills plus all the future therapies and such. If you can please help ... https://www.gofundme.com/f/please-help-maegan-and-her-family ... if she was shot by a COP or attacked by a Republican politician she’d have hundreds of thousands of dollars donated but nope ... not a lot of coverage or social media hash tagging so it’s been slooooow.

She’s a good kid who was doing her part for the community and petty much got a short stick ... please help. Also if you can drop her a Get Well, Thinking of You or such card ... Maegan Speciale 238 Campen Road Bayboro, NC 28515. Her spirits are good and she’s happy to be home but for the foreseeable future she’s not going to be doing much outside of therapy and staying home thanks to C-19 ... a card or note does brighten the day.

Thanks for you consideration ...

If she got hit on a fire scene, it shouldn't matter if she is career or volunteer. She has to be covered by Workers Comp. That should cover her medical bills, surgeries and on-going care. Please tell them to look into it.

Did the driver of that car have insurance coverage? If the driver owns a home they may have an umbrella policy that can cover the expenses for the negligence.

Yeah her chief needs to be stepping in with help through workers comp and also as mentioned the driver of the car insurance needs to be contacted.

I’m sure that the family is all over the insurance, workers comp, disability, etc. If you’ve ever had a serious accident you’ll know that in spite of all this there are costs that either aren’t covered or that it’s impossible to do the work to get them covered given the emotional weariness of it all.

This can be alleviated some by hiring an attorney to litigate with the insurance company. This is super common in some states, but not so much in NC.
