Not sure but lots of bullets ricocheting, could have entered below his vest. Officer was also being fired on while on the ground. (18:29)
He was initially shot in the shoulder as he approached the house.

Cop giving aid, he was on his A game. Did everything right while also keeping an eye on downrange threats.
Cop rolled him to look for life-threatening bleed on back, that's a next-level skill. Well done.
Second cop asked about back wounds, rolled him again to assess. Nest next-level.
Put him in the cop car instead of waiting for the bus. Excellent move.
