Walmart to stop selling handgun ammunition, will ask customers not to open carry

I go to Walmart for cheap groceries and oil filters but rarely buy my ammo there. It’s too much trouble to find someone with keys.

I will probably not be boycotting them for this, and I don’t think many people will. I think this is a big victory for the anti’s. It’s the end of an era.

I have always thought the low prices of Walmart ammo kept some of the other gun stores honest. If Walmart is out of the market, the local guys may mark their stuff up further.

Good. I'm actually glad this commie company has done this. Back in the early 90's, Wal-mart was all about made in the USA and supporting local jobs. Used to see banners hanging from the ceilings about it in the Indiana stores. Now, the largest (amazon might be bigger) importer of cheap Chinese shit. I used to go there before the range and buy $100 in ammo or so. Now I will buy all ammo at either gun shows, Outdoor limited or elsewhere on line. They get nothing from me anymore.

You put it right in the X-ring Grunge. I understand he's (the WM CEO) sending a letter to congressmen and DJT urging "common sense gun laws" and expanded background checks. This is all about T's tariffs on China. Probably 90% of the WM goods come from China. I bet the internet sellers are urging him on. hahahahaha

'cheap groceries'
You ain't shopping at the same store I have been to. They're higher than Food Lion on all name brands, and way higher than Aldi on all generic branded items.
Advance Auto has a habit of sending me $5 and $20 speed perks about the same time as I need an oil change, and I can pre-order and pickup in store without smelling some methhead's BO in front of me in line. The sporting goods clearance thread was about the last thread left hanging and they just cut that..........

Aldi!!!! Yes!!!!

I don’t go in Walmart often. I was on my way out of Dunn a few weeks ago and I’d heard they had some good bargains on ammo, so I stopped in. They had 9mm priced at about what I pay online shipped so I bought 900 rounds (all they had that suited me). I carted that crap in plastic bags for what seemed like 300 yards out to the car.

I determined then:
A) That I much prefer having it delivered to my door.
B) That I don’t like going in there anyway, because carrying two guns is heavy, which is what I feel compelled to carry when I drive onto their parking lot.

So now they tell me they won’t sell what I went in there for anyway...

I don’t think of it as boycotting them as much as they’ve just given me an outstanding excuse to never go back.

I will OC every time I walk in their doors.
Personally, I’m much less confrontational. I’ll just continue to carry my 1911, OWB, and concealed by my x-small t-shirt. :D

More than likely ammo sales are short/flat or just down period. Walmart is cutting them out due to low to no ROI. So why not make it an appeasement to certain demographic.

I never OC anyway. Not worth the unwanted attention. That's why I got my CCW. As for Walmart, I buy nothing there anyway so no loss for me. A lot of people on social media saying they will OC there anyway now to prove a point since NC is an OC state. Well Wal Mart is private property....not worth going to jail over. No need to make a scene, just agree or disagree with it and move on.

I didn't carry two guns when I went recently (for the first time in years) but I did shove a bunch of extra magazines in my bra. It was a struggle, and not especially comfy, but I felt I had to carry as much ammo as I could! LOL.

........ No biggie for me. I go to wally world about once a month or so for household supplies. I have bought ammo from them in the past, but service is soooooo hit or miss, I haven't bought any ammo or guns from them in a long time.....it's not worth the hassle. I'm fortunate to have 3-4 reasonable local places to go for that. When they dont have what Im looking for (they cant stock everything), the usual goto online places have what i need. I dont like their new open carry policy however....... Its not for me, but I respect everyones rights to do as they wish within reason. I occasionally do see a person or two open carrying at my local wally world. They have not once threatened me or made me feel uncomfortable.

I will continue to purchase my ammo online, or at local gun shops or gun shows. Haven't purchased ammo at Walmart in years. No impact on me. As others have posted, it shows you where Walmart truly stands. They are all Dick's.

At this point, I wouldn't buy a $5 dollar bill from them for a quarter. I'm getting tired of being called a racist and being told I'm the problem. Fall of 2020 is going to be interesting.
Well...

If you’re selling $5 bills for a quarter, I’ve got a stack of quarters ready. Just tell me when and where. And I won’t call you a racist at any point in the process. :D

So who have ammo at that price point these days other than bulk online purchases?

Maybe they'll put all the handgun ammo on clearance! I hope i get some cheap.
no rollbacks is my understanding from visit today...also .223 and 5.56 'gone' after current stock is depleted.
told couple of millennial workers there it was a pussy decision.....
not that they gave a crap.

Hmm guess some pharmacy business going to mail-order now.....

Problem is Walmart and their buying power/pricing keeps a lot of other places reasonable... Curious how this affects market prices in general...

I like SGammo but you have to buy like 500 to beat Walmart unless you’re buying steel case. The online sellers are certainly gonna see an increase in sales after this.

Outdoor Limited beats Wal Mart on single boxes. Lol They really were not "that" cheap. Wal Mart vs gun shops and places like Gander, yeah they were a lot cheaper. Online is usually always cheaper that Wal Mart though.

What's an outdoor limited? Is there one in the triangle?

Hardly comparable if it's a single shop in Charlotte or some such thing...

Did I miss the multiple recent mass shootings involving handguns at Walmarts around the country?

No, of course I didn't miss anything. This is another case of unrelated actions taken solely for the purpose of virtue signaling.

Nevertheless, understand that this has huge implications in California, where ammo purchases must be face-to-face.

Yup. We go to Lidl. Beats the hell out of Walmart, quality and prices.

My only trips to Walmart are around 7 am on Saturday before the crowd, I buy my oil, car wash stuff and our sons diapers there. That’s it

If WallyWorld really cared about people, their pharmacy would STOP dealing SSRI drugs. (and car parts)

Statistics are overrated.

Make no mistake, this is a huge win for the antigunners. They're spiking the football all over social media.

I've been doing the bulk of my ammo shopping online or at sporting goods/LGS for years, but I liked Walmart's ammo counter because if you didn't mind waiting on someone with a key, you could stop in and buy some on the way to the range, or at almost any hour of the day.

Most of the local gun shops I know keep bankers hours. I guess most of their customers don't work a day job.
