So after shooting my H&R M12 in the monthly rimfire challenge, I had made it a point to give the bolt a good cleaning due to extraction issues. The M12/5200 uses dual spring-loaded extractors which had accumulated a lot of crud over time.
To give you an idea... here's what they look like
Removing/reinstalling is a bit of a pain, so I pry the left one out and clean it out fairly well. I go to repeat the same thing with the right extractor and when I pry it back, KAPWINNGG... the parts are launched into space. I hear a small "tink" of metal-to-metal contact, but the part(s) are nowhere to be found in the clutter that is my garage.
So, after a visit to NUMRICH and $45 in parts & shipping I have replacements on the way. No more attempts at the rimfire challenge with this rifle for the next 7-10 days!
Heck of a way to end the day...
