Barnes ttsx, hornady gmx, or berger bullets? Honestly theres so many choices these days i cant decide.
6.5 creedmoor under 400yds BBCWhat caliber, distance, and animal?
Yep, in 7mm rem mag.I like the nosler ballistic tips 150gr for white tail. Available and work well.
Right now im leaning towards the 120gr gmx. Ive heard that its a fantastic bullet. Similar to the barnes ttsx but way more commonly available in my area from the factory in their outfitter line. I can find it almost anywhere.I’ve used a few and they all got the job done. Nosler 77gr CC and SGK 65gr in 223 (all under 100y in the woods). Hornady 165gr SST in 308. Hornady SP 129gr and 143gr ELD-X in 6.5 (the 129 SP is a hammer under 200y, not sure how the 143 would do under 100y as I think it may still have too much velocity for proper expansion but I’ve not tried and can’t confirm).
I don’t know much about the gmx. Is that the big game version of the Amax?Right now im leaning towards the 120gr gmx. Ive heard that its a fantastic bullet. Similar to the barnes ttsx but way more commonly available in my area from the factory in their outfitter line. I can find it almost anywhere.

Its a monolithic all copper bullet. Claims 95% weight retention and controlled expansion.I don’t know much about the gmx. Is that the big game version of the Amax?
Did you recover the bullet? How was the wound channel? I havent seen many postings of the edlx but my worry with it is at closer ranges it wont expand at all.I used that round this past year in .300 WinMag. I picked it because of the controlled expansion without the possibility of case deterioration upon impact (explosion), thus minimizing loss of meat. The rounds group well and I made a great neck shot with the one and only deer I took this past year. Tissue damage was minimal, but the nature of the shot (severed spine midway down the neck) resulted in a lot of clotting in the area. The deer was hung and allowed to drain over night, but without the heart beating after impact, the blood really didn't move much after the clots developed.
I believe a heart or lung shot would have been better, but I don't typically use the neck, so I wasn't too upset of losing that area.
This year I plan on picking up the Sig Cross rifle, and have bought their 130gr. Elite Hunter rounds to be used to harvest deer. The speed is in the range where I do not have concern over jacket deterioration, and the weight is in line with the Prime 130gr. match rounds I plan on using for the rifle.
Whitetail aren't big enough to stop a .300 WinMag. PM me your email address and I'll send you a picture of the exit wound. The bullet stuck the spine and left a exit approximately 3 to 5 times in overall width. Impact was approximately 110 yards away.Did you recover the bullet? How was the wound channel? I use the 150gr ttsx for my 06. I worked up a load with varget that is coming in just under 3k fps. It will do a 1.5” group at 300 yards out of a tikka t3.
That’s my squirrel load.I bet that will knock down a Coyote to a Water Buffalo... that is a bad combination right there....
Where are you going for elk?the factory electroplated "bonded" economy bullets are far and away the best bang for the buck. Of those, Federal Fusion 165s in .30-06 have dropped whitetails every time I have hit one. I plan to take the same ammo on Elk hunts.
CherokeeWhere are you going for elk?
I don't think that's open here yet... but man, I did see a nice 6x6 at Cataloochee.Cherokee
Same bullet I hunted with in 223 (77gr) for a while. Never dropped them in their tracks but they didn’t get far and always an easy trail. It’s a crazy-good bullet in front of 8208xbr.Here lately I have worn them (deer) out with the .308
I have found that the Nosler Custom Comp bullets are capable of in the same hole accuracy at 100 yards.
Although not a hunting bullet they are accurate and drop deer like a hammer.
