Well this took an unexpected turn! Looking at the title I was thinking of some new wood stocks I've seen and unless it's knotty or warped someone IS making a stock out of it.

Ornamental or does it actually play and sound good?

Well, I'm a total hack at playing anything but ringing bells.

However, I'm trying to learn it by force since finding an instructor is harder than building it.

But it's tuned right, and I can choke out a reasonable rendition of Come Thou Fount, as well as a transposed version of Shine Jesus Shine. I can almost do Sweet Caroline, because everyone can sing that. DA da daaaaaa.....

Melodies only for the most part. I need to work on chords to make it sound like music...

I'll work my way into some classic country as I go.

And any other time I would have laminated pieces together to make a gun stock, but when you find a 4' black walnut 1x12, a maple 2x2, and some basswood planks hiding in the rafters of an old barn, you just got to go with it....

Another reminder about how amazed I find myself with regards to the awesome talent of folks on this board. Absolutely amazing.
