What was your first competition

I believe it was July 2015 I shot my first match at PHA (2 Gun). The very next day I went to CSOS (USPSA) match and I have been hooked ever since.

With IDPA scoring recently changing to 1 sec down per point, the emphasis on accuracy has been increased.

I think that's a bad move too. It's gonna create a bigger gap from the top to the middle and push more folks away to run and gun stuff like USPSA... JMO...

The interesting thing is there is one SO who scores almost the same as me every match, but he has nearly no points down due to his extreme accuracy. I shoot much faster but less accurate, and even shooting under the new new rule we still scored the same. Maybe a fluke.

It worried me when i saw the rule change because I figured it would very negatively impact my score. I think I finally found a gun I like, and after 15-18 matches I finally improved my shooting a little bit.

Just wait until I jump on the scene. I'm actually a ringer, I'm just playing the part of a noob lol. All kidding aside, I will be very surprised if I place anything but last my first couple matches.

I think the first few I'll just ignore the timer and just shoot slow to kind of get my bearings for shooting matches and all that. What's the saying, slow is smooth and smooth is fast. Something along those lines I think.

My experience has been that no matter how bad I shoot, there are always at least 10 people who shoot worse.

Get ready for 11! lol

Obviously I want to do well, but I'm looking forward to meeting new people and having fun. It's like here but in person, I'd imagine.

First one was either Bowling pins or GSSF, can't recall which was first.

The pins are setup the same as they are in real bowling, so a large caliber is preferred. I used a 44spl Anaconda.

First pistol match was and IDPA club match at my club. Great experience all around. The guys were very helpful and saw to it that I did not take myself too seriously. My then 12 year old thumped me but good. The gap between us has only gotten greater with time. I am blaming the new IDPA 1.0 sec per down for it. That way I don't have to admit that he is improving faster than I am. So that's my story on the 1 second down and I am sticking to it.

I showed up to our local indoor range and they were having a little match, this was about 1997 or so. They would shoot bowling pins or targets and just do fun little stages.

A few months of doing these every week and a guy encouraged me to shoot a local USPSA match in 1998. Did this for a while and life happened. Just now getting back to it after 18 years. I was pretty apprehensive about how I'd shoot but after a few matches that has subsided. Having lots of fun.

My first match ever was PHA 2 gun, where I rolled up with my 20" FN FAL and a Glock 21. The FAL made it about one stage before a ripped case took it out of commission. @Wahoo95 let me use his SBR AR15 for the rest of the match and I had a blast! I shot this match a little while then laid out of shooting for a couple years.

My first USPSA match was last March at Sir Walter. Little did I know that it was Phil Strader sharing a snack with me between stages. I finished 90th of 116 and shot 37.8% of the winner. What a difference a year can make!

Sorry I couldn't resist.

Sanctioned?
1000yd benchrest at Hawks Ridge back in '97.
Since then lots and lots of disciplines. Silhouette both pistol and rifle, small bore and big bore, NRA and IHMSA. High Power, 22 Tactical Precision, DMM, 3 Gun, Steel Challenge, Bullseye, and most recently I shot one IDPA match. My only limiting factor is my health and my honey do list. I want to shoot more matches but time and physical limitations are holding me back.

If you can get to a match, do it while you are able. I highly recommend it.

Nope.. not even doing that. I am not much of a pistol shooter, most of my stuff is DMM and Precision. I can do alright with pistol, and you are spot on. I need to do more.

I have to admit, it's great fun to watch DMM/Precision rifle shooters tackle a pistol stage. Or even a single pistol target!

You just have to have a lot of time and patience to watch it happen! :D

Edit: probably looks similar to me doing a DMM stage!

I went to a falling plate match at PHA about a year and a half ago. It was fun, but didn't go back until yesreday for the 2 gun match. I'm hooked!! I almost didn't do it because I didnt want to embarass myself, but I just said f*#@ it and did it. Glad I did. Don't think my wallet will be cause I gotta get some more gear (at least a belt, more ammo, new buffer, better irons for the AR, optics for said AR etc.).

Ok guys and gals, I just signed up for my very first match Saturday in Oxford. ZSA Pistol match. I'm excited and a little nervous. If you're not shooting somewhere else, come on up and cheer me on or laugh, it's totally up to y'all.

Alrighty now, got my first one under my belt at Oxford today. I finished 36th overall and 2nd out of 4 in my class (heavy metal). I even won one of the stages in my class. I was/am so excited, and surprised. Thanks again to Dave, Eric, and especially Steve for all the help and advice throughout the day. It's like a drug and I need my next fix!

We enjoyed shooting with you, and were impressed by how well you did!

We started in 2 Gun nearly 3 and a half years ago in February at PHA and promptly fell in love with it. Since CCGCI didn't have any matches like that, we decided to start one and Gene was great helping us get up and going. We'll have our third anniversary this year of the CCGCI Match! Hard to believe it's been that long. We don't make PHA nearly as much as we used to due to work, but we have done some other matches as well here and there. Great fun, make some terrific friends, learn some skills, and get a chance to shoot while you're doing all of it!
