What would be your recommendation for an affordable toolbox for a gunsmith “the actual toolbox itself” (found)

I’m starting college in less than a month and the only site my grant is valid for is out of toolboxes, I’m not looking for a handout that being said if anyone has advise regarding where I could purchase an appropriately sized toolbox please share

Husky brand tool boxes offer great bang for the buck, but depending on the size of the tools you'll be using most, a machinists box may be better suited for small hammers/bits/punches/drifts/calipers.

I would suggest going to Harbor Freight and getting a cheap tool box. What you think you need and what you really need maybe two totally different things. So go cheap then after you have some experience and get out of school, get what you really need.

I got this box for my gun cleaning supplies. Works great and I could see it working for a home-smith setup if you need to be portable.

Are you looking for a "box", rolling cart or chest. I would think a machinist type box with drawers would suit you better based on the assumption you will have precision tools. Either way, let me know and I can probably set you up with something.

I appreciate the offer, I’m looking for a machinist tool box, how much would you want for it?

when I was in gunsmithing school I shopped the swap meets and newspaper ads for machinist box sales.. I picked up several Kennedy, Craftsman and other nice tool boxes at very good prices, sometimes with good measuring tools included.

Thank you for your help and advice

Time consuming but, lawdy lawdy, ^THAT^ is The Way!!!!!

(I have to file a front sight and wasn’t until late (Late!) last night I was perusing Brownells … something to,d me to Hold off on ordering anything until I could check what I have and Lo and behold this morning I found files made by both Apex and another Mfr in Austria - all of which I scooped up at a yard sale!

Fyi i used a basic craftsman 3 drawer tool box the whole time. You will make tools that won't fit in almost any tool box but that's why you have a bench.

That thing don't look toooo lighttight anymore to me .I spent about 40 hours making mine. Lenny Moore and Spence ( forget last name) are guiding the ship now. I'm an alum from last century. Pete/ Russ era.

You are correct sir! Light tight it is not🤣😂🤣. I was there with Pete and Russ as well. Russ left a few months after i started and Brian replaced him. I miss those guys a bunch. Pete was a real character.

Yea i remember feeling like id never get finished. Looking back, it was one of my best times in life. Young, no big bills to worry about, lots of guys joking around all day. My old benchmate is still one of my best friends. Enjoy your time there, it's a great experience.

I figure if I take it slow and steady I will get it done right the first time

That's the way! I look forward to you posting your progress throughout the program.

And have no fear , there is plenty of flat stock on the rack. Enjoy the ride.
