What's a competition that you've never tried, that you'd like to try?

Think I'm going to try a gssf match. I hate iron sights, but a buddy is going to outfit me with his open glock.

Back when I lived in Atlanta and shot GSSF, there was no open division. Only box stock allowed.
I swear they had it when I used to shoot them. Was my 1st experience seeing race guns...

Anything with a shotgun. I did a shotgun match once (like 3 gun style) and loved it. I'd like to try more skeet and sporting clays type stuff.

And cowboy action.

And, something like DMM.

Thing was: you couldn't shoot from your pocket.

Yeah it just sounded cool into me.

I've tried it so I might be out of bounds, but I want to get back into biathlon (specifically summer biathlon, I can't skate-ski for shit) - that was fun.

Never figured out what I would need to go to a Bullseye competition for... seems like something I could just hang targets at 25 and 50 and work on accuracy myself.

Well, I think there's a lot to be learned from the folks who are really good at it.

Yeah, you can have that one... Unless I can shoot it from the truck window! Then I'm in!

On facebook at 5k run and gun. It is full with a long wait list though.

Another for 3 gun.
I have the handgun and AR that would be quite suitable, but my Jed Clampett Winchester 12 gauge pump is probably lacking.

Nobody has mentioned Cowboy Fast Draw. It is a hoot and is about as inexpensive to shoot as any match I can imagine.

Is this different than regular cowboy matches?

Anything that doesn't involve running from stage to stage; my wheels are broke.

I did the 25 and 50 yard bullseye stuff as a young Marine. It's addictive, like benchrest. Either you like it or you don't. It's absolutely nothing like action pistol at all. I would guess the crossover benefits would be the sight and trigger discipline, breathing and pulse techniques, learning your "wobble zone",and recoil management. A lot of pistol bullseye directly translates into long-distance rifle shooting.

Just my .02 before taxes, your mileage may vary...

I am a little surprised at the number of you that wants to try cowboy action shooting. I am sure you have heard it before but if you would go to a local club and ask about shooting, be prepared for we love to talk about our guns and stuff and may start shoving guns on you. Frustrating right now because of back surgery and it will be a deep freeze around here soon. I would love to meet up with some of you at PHA or your club and let you try some guns and gear.
You need to bring ammo and that might be a problem. Us speed freaks have our guns tuned so light they may not set off some factory ammo. I use nothing but Federal primers. And the ammo cannot be +P.
Better watch. Cowboy Action Shooting is addictive and rather expensive to start.

The cowboy in Red is me. The other fellow is a real estate guy that lives on Lake Norman.

Does archery count? Skeet with a bow would be fun. Just slower. There are guys who do it but I don't like loosing arrows.

Quite a bit. It only involves one 45 Colt revolver shooting wax bullets. The targets have a light in the middle that comes on to tell you when to draw and a microphone on the back side that hears the bullet hit to stop the timer. You compete with one other person at a time. The first one to win three times wins the round. We shoot six rounds at three different distances and then have a shootoff to determine the overall winner.

The required equipment is a whole lot less than regular Cowboy. The 45 Colt revolver can be the same and the holster can be the same, but there is no need for a shotgun, a rifle, or a second revolver. The ammo is also different. We use special cases that accept shotgun primers and wax bullets. The cases never wear out and do not need any sizing between shoots, and the wax bullets are bought by bags of 1,000 for a very modest price. The cases and bullets are available from the Cowboy Fast Draw site. I feel certain you can borrow some ammo, and about everything else for that matter, if you just want to give it a try. You might shoot 60 to 70 times during a match depending on how successful you are.

You can dress as fancy as you like, but I generally just wear jeans, a Henley shirt, and a farm store cowboy hat.

I don't get to shoot the game much any more, but a registered Skeet tournament has always been on the list.

You can likely borrow one from someone to get started. Shell holders too...

I'd like something just to actually shoot my ARs besides punching paper. I'll be chasing down some 2 gun stuff in 2017.

Speaking of, after Hurricane Matthew shut down a bunch of matches that weekend, including the Two Gun at Central Carolina near Burlington have they ever run any more Two Gun gun matches?

Yep come out to a Tarheel3Gun and shoot, if you are on my squad equipment would not be an issue, just bring ammo to feed it.

5th Saturday is the all rifle match at Sir Walter. Think USPSA with AR's. All paper, no steel. It's a great match.

Thanks Shawn. Glad to know they are running them again. Amp is running a day/night match at H20 that same Saturday. I will check Central Carolina's Calendar after this month.
