Happy to be here
They were made for grass strips. Tail draggers are jerky on pavement. That Mustang stalls at 95 mph , so 110 mph~ landing speed 😳.

Short trip to Florida, flying out of Elgin/Ft. Walton. I have to go to Norfolk next week, they’ve started flying F35’s out of Oceana too. So I’ll probably have some air shows in my future.Well well you lucky bugger, made a road trip to see someone’s Johnson eh? Or is that KNKT? Or somewhere else? In attack formation I see. That's what you get when you give em a bunch of OH-58s. Thankfully without the "D's".
Not "illegal" anymore, per se. "Unregistered" or "untaxed" is more likely.
Apparently they fight fires .

They had more based at Kinston but they shut that unit down. My FIL flew them out of Kinston. I think there are 3 in Garner and then some out west. That’s the way he did it as well. Had I think around 15 years on the road before he became a pilot. They have two. Maybe three? But I think two. I am amazed that with the state this big that's all they have in their fleet. They also have a peculiar way of getting their pilots, they take troopers and then send them to a civilian flight school.
If there ever was a time for saying “I really hope that cargo is tied tight.” It was then.View attachment 744079
Heard a peculiar sounding helicopter when I was in the shop the other day and saw this guy heading to trim some right of ways. First one I’d ever seen here.

I know, I was surprised too. I know it’s apples and oranges but the LA Police Department has at least 17 in a much smaller area.I talked with a couple pilots at their facility in Garner couple years ago, I'm surprised that they had that few helicopters, and they'd take troopers and put them through flight school.
The USAF also has some low level training flight paths that go through TN, western NC, VA and WVA. When my son was in pilot training, he got to play down in the weeds. He told me it's pretty scary to be trucking along below the ridgetops in a blind valley for the first time at the controls.Maybe. They might have been down low. They have a few "usual" training paths. The one shown above where they leave CLT and head north is typically done at normal altitude until they get to WV. At that point they hit the deck and return south. When they pass over the house in Farmington they're so low you can see the pilots.

It is strange, I suppose the pay isn’t attractive to ex military pilots and perhaps they don’t want new troopers starting out in the air. I’ll try to remember that ask my FIL if he knows any reasoning behind it.
