Ok guys the other thread talking about what is too much has me thinking have you guys ever bought a gun for too much and regretted it? Or maybe you just spent too much on one and got in trouble with the missus. Let's hear it.
I've never spent more than 2000 on a gun before. It was a barrett rec 7 ar pistol with a tail hook brace. Had to get rid of it, as always when money trouble hits, and took a 300 loss.
I Also wanted a steel frame kahr so bad that I paid 800$ for one through Davidson gallery of guns i didn't even notice that i got a 40 instead of the intended 9...I know, I know. The only excuse I have is I was young and single making slightly more than minimum wage.
Those are my 2 biggest regrets, with guns anyways... you fellas have any?

First ...this is not possible in our home...would Not be tolerated.

My answer to you title is....Never...... Now get that wife problem sorted out.

I get in trouble for other things...mostly talkin smack and effing with her. But not for buying guns or related stuff

Bought a Daniel Defense rifle a few years back for $1600ish I think it was. That’s to date, the most I’ve ever spent.

oh and I misread the title. I definitely don’t regret it.

Bought a Colt Detective Special Cobra that I didn’t realize was aluminum.

Fortunately for me one of the employees at the shop wanted it.

STi DVC. Shot it in a steel challenge match. Had to re-adjust my grip twice to make the grip safety to fire the gun. Sold it recently for a profit. Now either shoot a Glock 34 or a CZ tacsport In matches. No grip safety to foil my plans.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Regret is too strong a word, but bought a JRA M14 about 4 years ago (one of their last "Rockola's") mostly thinking of it as a legacy for my stepson (now a 1LT in the army). Whether firearms were only a fad with him or maybe just too much part of his daily existence now, he doesn't have much interest currently and its just not a weapon I shoot much.

So I only regret it insofar as I would probably use a Henry Big Boy in .357 much more nowadays.

i buy what i want when i think i’m getting a fair price. this almost always means i buy used.

usually feel like i can recoup my investment or make a tiny profit.

i’ve bought like 3 guns that were brand new releases. paid about $50 more for each of them thani if i waited 6 months...but i wanted those guns RIGHT THEN so i don’t really regret them.

i think $2500 is most i've ever paid but it was a bucket list gun that i can probably flip easily

All joking aside if buy something I don't like or am not going to use I sell it. I am like @vp9c in that most of the time I buy used so if I want to move on I can sell it for what I have in it. No Ragrets from ownership! There are a few here and there I wish I did not sell but for the most part I have been able to buy them back later. For example I traded a Carbonia Blue Colt WWI Repro for a HRA Collector Grade CMP Garand but bought another one for less than I could have bought the Garand for. I do miss my nickel Beretta 84FS.

Bills get paid, retirement funds gets paid, all the other little buckets get paid, then we split the rest.

She could withdraw her bit and light it on fire in the backyard for all I care, and vice versa.

I have these fun guns in .22lr that I thought would be great, marlin mounties, S&W 17s, 18s, 617s, 41s and a rack of Ruger MkIIs...and now my daughters don’t shoot. Don’t regret having them, still fun for me, but do I don’t really need several of each? At least I don’t have a lot of money tied up in them.

I regret not buying a S&W model 41 with a factory nickel finish, it was $600 and I thought it was too flashy. Later I realized that they are quite scarce.

I paid full retail at Hyatts for a Keltec PF9. It was my first CC piece and I had not found out about this place yet. It's not the most expensive gun but the most overpriced by far. I don't regret buying the gun but knowing what I know now I realize I was a duma$$ to pay sticker price.

Honestly, none of them. In my few years with guns, I’ve owned about 40-50 total, I now have 2 (Kahr K9 is on the way, will make it 3.) Took me a while to learn what I really liked but I’m about there.

It’s not like I’m losing money buying guns/ammo, I can always resell it for what I bought it for (for the most part) or more. I also get the experience and knowledge of that particular platform, whatever it may be. I’m not buying and selling guns for experience, I can rent for that but it’s an added plus, expanding my knowledge on different manuals-of-arms.

Of course if you buy an expensive, super niche gun that is tough to resell, I could see an issue but with me, it’s always been fairly popular firearms that I always have no trouble reselling (some more than others.)

Most pricy right now is this Kahr K9, still got a good deal on it for being new and especially in the current market. Honestly I’ve never been more excited for a gun, also being brand spanking new, there’s definitely some sentimental value growing even though it won’t be here until next week

Guns? Never.
Car/Truck modifications? She gets annoyed with the big projects but never because of cost.

YES. I. DID! Not one once of regret!
Good!

Cause I ain’t buying it back. :D

I will say, I learned I prefer a “cheap” 1911 that is hot-rodded by me to my extreme preferences.

Can’t hardly do that to a $3000 handgun without feeling some pain and remorse, so I didn’t.

I chased a 3" Pre-Lock S&W 625 for a couple years. Had one pop up that I jumped on and paid the premium "gotta have it" price, around $1,200 I think.

Got it in hand a few days later was distinctly remember thinking, "Well, that's it?".

Happy Thanksgiving Ashe!

Most expensive regret was a Springfield EMP 9, when they first came out. Paid I think $1100 for it.

Wouldn't run any hollow point to save it's life (or mine). Sent it back to Springfield for them to fix it and sold it as soon as I got it back at a loss.

I don't feel like I ever overpaid and I've never taken a significant loss, thank goodness. Most I've spent on a gun is ~$800 for a fishgill RTF2 G19.

I regret selling every gun I have ever sold. I do not regret purchasing any guns.

I regret buying certain accessories. Single point slings, MOE handguards, optics a hundred bucks or so cheaper than I should have spent, and factory Beretta 92 mags.

I had a can coming and with Osama freshly elected I bought a Barnes precision 300 blk for $1600. No issues with the gun (hell I own several BPM guns now) but 300blk suppressed was a bit disappointing. I haven't shot it much since. I built a rem700 300blk gun since for fly farts.

My regrettable sale was in college, I sold my first shot gun a rem 870 with a tacky Hogue stock kit. Sold it for $200

Eh. There was an AMD65 I couldn't get rid of fast enough & traded for a Rossi 92 in .357. Bought a S&W 5906 that I was underwhelmed by & moved it out ASAP as well.

My most regretful purchase was PSA AK 47 2ND generation. Brand new MSRP

Oooof that stuff had a lot of problems and I thought that they dealt with the many of the problems with the 1st generation

Sold it for $550 and took a bit of a loss but I did warn the other guy. Of the problems but he was alright with it

Later got a MAK-90 and never looked back

Bought a Smith 2.5" 66 in excellent condition for 350 way back when and sold it for 400 thinking i had done good.
Years later I traded a new ak (can't remember manufacturer) for another 66 2.5"sight unseen... that one was shot to crap and needed tlc. Sold it to a gunsmith for 550. Lost my ass on that one as well.

My priciest to date was probably my SCAR 16s but no regrets at all. My only regrets are for the ones still on my bucket list that I may never have the opportunity of owning - SVD Dragunov, MP5...

I bought an off brand something when I was about 21 years old that was a Remington Nylon 66 knockoff. I had always wanted a Nylon 66 but really could not afford it at the time. The knockoff was about $50 if I recall but it FTF so much we started calling it the "snap master". I finally ended up giving it away to a buddy. Not sure what he did with it. Worst $50 I ever spent. Should have saved for the Remington.
Does anyone still have a Nylon 66? :)

I bought a used 10/22 at the LGS, paid more than I wanted, then had to put another $100 in it to get it to run. Impulse buy and I'll never get my money back out of it.

Other than that I am pretty specific about my purchases. I did just order two Ruger PC chargers.... Probably sell one and try and recoup what I have in it.
