I know I’ve seen several people mention using the Wheeler torque wrenches for scopes/etc.

Are you using the digital one? Or the basic one?

I’m leaning toward digital, but no real idea why. Anybody used both an have a preference?

I’ve got the wheeler fat wrench, welcome to borrow it and try out. Don’t have any immediate plans to use it so would be no rush

not specific to scope wrenchs, but have generally found you have to get pretty high end models on the digital torque wrenches to get any that are quality.

Actually use my digital snap on torque wrenches for anything down to 15 in-lbs, and fix-it sticks for the really minuscule stuff. Probably overkill on my part. Unless you’re dealing with scope caps and zero stop screws I wouldn’t worry too much about dead-on accuracy

+1 for Fat Wrench
Digital or standard? I was looking at PSA site because I have a gift card balance, and both styles use the name FAT Wrench in the description.

I’d be curious to test the Fat Wrench.

Got the Shadow2 OR adapter plate, and a Virtex Razor 1x6 in. Just tested my old torq screwdriver set to 1.6Nm.

I have a fat wrench, if we can arrange it I’d be glad to meet up and test it. I reside in the mebane area.
I do like my fat wrench for mounting scopes and such. Mine is just the basic model.74913A96-012F-45E7-BD02-B3E3D1D09AFB.jpeg

I have the same one @dbracin has. I’ve haven’t broke a screw or striped a thread with it and I change a lot of optics.

I bought an as new “return” from Amazon. It was significantly cheaper and arrived in perfect condition.

Digital or standard :)?

Another happy standard Fat Wrench user here. My experience is the same as @amnesia, no broken screws or stripped threads. Take the tension out of it when not in use.

If I can remember.
I’ll be happy to grab the tester if I’m working out West. Do you ever run into @ImYourHuckleberry ?

PSA has the standard for a couple more bucks than other places, but I have a gift card balance that covers all but tax and shipping…gonna order it later today.

Thanks for all the input!!

Two related follow-up questions before I order, based on the fact the analog does 10-65 and the digital goes 15-100.
I have the digital version. No complaints.
Same here.
1. Have either of you ever used it for anything 65-100 in/lbs?

2. For those with the analog, have you ever run into a situation (firearms related) where you needed more than 65?

No

If I need more than the fat wrench can give, I'd just use a regular torque wrench.

Figured out I already used that PSA balance. 🙄

Ordered the regular one on Amazon. On sale for $49.99, and will be here between 2p-6p today…well before any scope or mount shows up.

Vortex has a nice one.

I went with a generic one, but it came with certification paperwork. One of the few that offered it.

Personally, I prefer mechanical over digital.

Basic wheeler in/lbs torque screwdriver for me. Works great for optics and such.

I just bought the analog Wheeler FAT wrench this month. Used it a few times on different optics. I really like it.

I was shopping for a Wheeler digital FAT wrench but discovered Fix-it-stick's All-in-one torque limiters. I got a set for Christmas and have been pleased with them.

I have the non digital fat wrench and like it. Work up to the final torque and then set it. One must remember that these non-digital ones must have the tension taken off (IE untwist the cap) after using to keep their spec. Given this, I'd not want to buy one used. Borrowing one (from someone reputable) sure, but buying a used one not knowing the history... pass.
