I need to make minimalist holsters for 3 different guns, and would like to try to make a sheath to wear my leatherman at work, and to keep my girls kamas from getting bent in their karate gear bags.

Where do y'all buy your kydex stuff, like the sheet, rivets/eyelets, and molding foam? Knifekits.com?

Should I go with 0.092 thick?

Anything to add to this tutorial?

Thanks and happy new year!

I buy a lot of stuff from knifekits. I also pick up a few things here and there from other places. Texas Knifemaker Supply, Amazon...

.092 I find to be too thick for most applications. Go with .08. for smaller sheaths I even prefer .06

Swing by the house some time and I'll give you a hands on tutorial.

Amazon, especially if you have Prime.

I've also used KnifeKits, but always felt like their shipping costs were high.

Yeah unless you are doing 200.00+ orders at a time knifekits shipping is spendy. I order in bulk.

Shipping tends to kill all the vendors, except Amazon with prime, but I don't like having to hunt for specific items I prefer browsing.

I fill a cart at Knifeworks and Index Fasteners and see what works best at check out time. They both ship quick at least. Index priority has usually been next day or two day since they have a Dist Center just up the road in VA.

I've used .08" for everything, I've had one crack, I didn't pay attention and had an indent, the lowest mounting fastener and a corner all lined up causing it to flex in one small area instead of spread across it.

I haven't watched that tutorial, for holsters I suggest a "Taco press" taco type holsters are cleaner and take up less real estate; for sheaths and whatnot you can lay it on its side to do pancakes or whatever they call the two pieces riveted together.

Junk, not the prettiest besides maybe the Kryptek one, but you can't have a Kydex thread without pics

These guys are great for a lot of stuff. Don't think they carry rivets though. Get all my kydex and clips here. Probably going to get screws and t nuts there since they started carrying powder coated black.

That's Index, they do eyelets which I seem to always call rivets, though they aren't.

eyelets yes, never seen rivets there. I get mine from Springfield Leather. Always thought it was odd they didn't have them.

Every now and then youll find a BOGO on Amazon on Kydex, done it before on there!

Love the kryptek....

I like the wings. How durable are those easy off/on versions? Been thinking about trying them out...

Over on the other site I posted some pics from my garage, including a huge sheet (3x5) of kydex. Ive not played with it yet (and still have some from Amazon too), but I hope to get to working with it this winter

the 3x5 sheet was free - it was stapled to a pallet with furniture on it
