Daughter has a birthday coming next weekend and has “ordered” a prime rib and lobster home-cooked dinner to celebrate. Anybody know where I can find good lobster tails in the HP/Triad area?

Jeff, try the restaurant depot on Sharps Airpark Ct, right off regional rd. They do day passes for folks that don’t have a food business license. That’s where we get most of our meat and the brisket and chicken usually for @Chdamn bbq

Here is a Lobster buying experience story. When I was living in Florida I had a friend that was from Maine and he planned a trip to go back home for a couple of weeks. His neighbor asked him if he could send him a few fresh lobsters by mail and my friend agreed. So my friend bought lobsters right off the boat for a good price, shipped them over night packed in dry ice. When my friend came back to Florida he asked the neighbor how he liked the bugs. The neighbor said that he received them on time but threw them in the trash can. Why? Cause they were green and not orange and the neighbor thought that they had spoiled.

If you have a Harris Teeter I have bought nice lobster tails there. Occasionally they are on sale.
Back when I was living near the Charlotte area, I trusted Harris Teeter's seafood dept as compared to Food Lions for freshness and availability. Now that I live in a poor eastern part of NC, you cant find a lobster tail no where not that I could afford that high dining anyways.

Anyone ever try Monk Fish ? Back when I was living in Charlotte area I could find this fish sometimes in the Harris Teeter stores for a good price. It called the poor mans Lobster because the texture and taste is similar. Its a god awful looking fish, almost looks prehistoric but its actually pretty darn good.

I love monk fish. I almost always order it if it’s on the menu.

Never found it in a store to try cooking it myself though.

Back in 1970 they used to throw them back or use for bait.

I remember seeing one in a tank at the grocery store. The rubber band came off its claw and it was sitting there holding it up and open at the customers as they walked by. I think it was angry.

Sister said she was in HT @ Skeet club yesterday and she doesn't believe they had Lobster but not certain
Wife and I are gonna spend our Fuel Points there this afternoon. Will try to remember to run in and look. I also wanna check out that fish store on N Main.

Nuffin at HT. The fish store has frozen lobster tails. Only $40 per pound. 😳

My Lowe’s grocery has a lobster tank.
Our HT has one too. Plugged in, filled with bubbling water and devoid of critters. The guy said the lobsters always died before being sold so they stopped ordering any.

I guess nobody from corporate told him to unplug and drain the tank. 😂

unsure if wholesale only, but Todd's Seafood is a source for a few restaurants in the area... one would just have to check for themselves...

^^^
looks like you found some and looks really good... how was it??

Daughter seemed to love it. For me, I think I overlooked and under seasoned it. 😢

They have a store front you can go into on National Highway in Thomasville. I don’t think they have whole live lobsters.

Florida lobster, thus the warm water label.. Bit of a difference between the Maine or cold water lobster. The Warm water bugs are less dense and not quite as sweet tasting as the Maine but still taste good and cost less also. Best thing about the warm water or Florida lobster is that If you have a small boat and snorkel gear you can actually go out there and catch them yourself. No need for traps and don't have to worry about getting your finger amputated cause they don't have any claws, You just pick them off the bottom or out of the rocks or corals. Careful of the sharks, they like the lobsters also that you caught and have in your hand.
