I'm needing some metal to build a bumper for my s10 blazer. Need a 4' of 2x4 steel , some 2x2 square steel, and some 4" 1/4" flat. Would Lowes be my best beat for this small amount? Thanks

Hunter Pipe in Rock Hill...they usually only sell full sheets and full length tube so be prepared. If its more then you want to spend, I've probably got everything you need.

Also check with junk yards. Bishs in Siler City would sell scrap by the pound until they closed. Lee iron and metal in Sanford would as well. I used to go to bishs every Tuesday before lunch and buy about 50lbs of whatever looked handy. Got a bunch of expanded metal and plate that way, also big sticks of pipe. I would just base my projects on what I had on hand, but that may not be much help to you.

Also from the sound of material your looking for that bumper will be a monster. That joker will be heavy.

Check to see if you have a Metal Supermarket near you. Ilove the one in Garner they sell what ever quanity you need.

Before going to Lowes, check out some local welders and see what they charge or where they get theirs. I get mine from a heavy duty truck repair shop, Hunnings, for half what Lowes charges.

Find a Retail Outlet For alro Steel. There's One In gso, all Carbon Steel Is $1/lb.

Metal Supermarket in Charlotte...

You can buy what you need... No minimums. Sometimes they have drops that they will sell as well

I compared them to Race City Steel. For me RCS is 5mi more distance but the price was $12 less. Plus they let me pick some practice scraps from the bin for $zero.

RCS is good, but I guess it depends on your location... Im near Rock Hill, SC. RCS is considerably farther from me than Metal Supermarkets.. We use Alro, Penn Steel, and Ryerson for our large orders and we source our AR500 plate from Charleston to get the best quantity pricing.
