Skipping over the (IMO) offshoot/ non-mainstream versions portrayed by David Niven and Barry Nelson, who do you think the best Bond actor has been so far?

I’ve watched each Bond movie many times and I’ve purchased them progressively on VCR, dvd, Blu-ray, 4k Blu-ray paying for at least a cheap bottle in the Broccoli’s wine cellar. I grew up in the Roger Moore era but as I watched the others later in life I appreciate the other actors as well.

My person ranking, most to least favorite
Sean Connery
Daniel Craig
Roger Moore
George Lazenby
Pierce Brosnan
Timothy Dalton

Connery was the best Bond actor, but Casino Royale, with Craig was the best Bond film ever.

I was underway, on a British ship, for 3 months. We got an early release copy on DVD before it released in theaters.

I remember watching it, for the first time, in a room full of Brits, drinking beer, cheering, and loving every minute of it.

Great memory for me!

I put Craig first, that's because the writing style of his movies were darker and probably the reason Skyfall was the best in the franchise.
Connery is a close second though

I love the campy Bond films with Connery and Moore. The newer films are more of a drama and don't have the over the top villains like the old ones.

Sean Connery did with with a flare and suave way … Daniel Craig did it with a more brutish and direct way. I grew up with Connery … Goldfinger overall will always be my top Bond but the Craig Casino Royale ranks up there with Craig. Craig took Bond and cut the witty banter and even gadget “stuff” and made Bond stoic and serious type.

I thought him telling the guy he was going to die touching his balls was pretty witty.

Hoooooly crap. Mind blown.

Oh…it’d be a hoot.

I can hear it now…the “villain” has James Bond right where he wants him and Bond replies, “I ever get outta this, I’m ona kill yoo, motherfucker!”

Yeah, craig is my #1 because he was bond in good films. connery #2 because connery.
On the other hand, we have people like 3rd nipple moore letting the women fight for him and then jumping out a window.

James Bond in the books was fatalistic and driven, with little care for his life.
However, being that the books were written in a time before you could reliably read all the books in order, each book was relatively standalone. So, James Bond was a serial monogamist. Instead of being a guy that went from woman to woman, he fell hard for a girl in the book he was in, and didn't always get the girl.

Timothy Dalton, imo, captured James Bond best. He was a grieving widower in his movies, but fell hard for his love interest. He was more serious and driven.

Dalton is best, unpopular opinion.

Even more unpopular, George Lazenby was 2nd best. Not because it was a good film or he was particularly good, but because he gave Bond the most character growth. In one movie Bond fell in love, got married, and lost his wife, ending with the heart wrenching thing he said to his dying wife, "we have all the time in the world." It pushed forward multiple revenge plotlines Connery and Dalton had in their movies, and its darker ending set the ground work for the darker tones Dalton and Craig had, and Brosnan flirted with. So, Lazenby #2. He also was able to play a pseudo James Bond in the awesomely bad film, Never Too Young to Die.

List of Bond women in case you need a refresher:

I remain surprised that they still allow "Pussy Galore" to be uncensored.

I loved the Connery-era flicks, a lot because of the 60s panache and kitsch. From Russia With Love is my fave, followed by Thunderball. But also really enjoy Craig's movies, especially Skyfall. He added an edgier, more combative Bond.

It is a tough choice between Connery and Craig, though I voted for the latter because I like how he portrays a darker aspect to the character making it more natural. Casino Royale and Sky Fall were both good. As far as Connery movies, I liked A View to a Kill best.
