If you are using one that you like, which do you have? I know there are several brands but thought I would check with guys here. Leaning towards the 8 qt. Want to cook whole chickens and ribs as the largest things we will likely cook. Might try it for small batch canning but there are mixed reviews on that. And since I don't really garden small, we rarely have a small batch of anything so that's way down the list anyway. Got a gift card or two for Christmas and we have been waiting to get one so were are going to order one here soon.

I bought one from Amazon and it fizzled and died a few minutes into the first use. If you want, I can try to look up the brand and model. After having that problem, I was able to find many customers with the same experience.

@rantingredneck

What one is it you made that soup in mate?

We have the Instant Pot Duo 60 V2.

It's pretty awesome. I've done pulled pork, chili, ham and potato soup, made bone broth and several other dishes so far. We really like it.

We have the InstaPot Duo and really like it. My wife uses it all time for soup and to make broth. We did a beef roast in it once that turned out well and a few pork tenderloins.

I don't know all the extra designations, but I have the 6qt InstantPot and I now want the 8qt.

The one I bought on Amazon last year and totally failed for me was:

Gourmia GPC800 Smart Pot Electric Digital Multifunction Pressure Cooker

We bought the 8Qt Instant Pot Duo 7in1 and like it a lot. e.g. nearly falling off the bone ribs with apple juice, liquid smoke and vinegar in 32 minutes plus a few minutes searing/broiling with your favorite sauce.

I have the Cuisinart one... works great@. But i hear the insta-pot ones are a little more programmable and have all stainless steel internals.

Caveat: I haven't cooked with an Instant Pot. But the Duo 60 V2 is the one I picked as a birthday gift, based on features, reviews, and the Black Friday price. My daughter, who tends to be hard to please, seems happy with it so far.

Went with the Instantpot LUX60 v3 6 qt. The v2 is discontinued and cost has run up on it. Ordered an egg rack for it too.

I've bought two Instant Pots.
The IP Duo 60 back in November of 2016 for us and the IP Duo Plus 6 recently for my son and his girlfriend, no issues with either of them.

There are many kitchen appliances I would give up before I let the IP go.
We probably use it 3-4 times a week.

There's a bit of a learning curve, however once you get the hang of it, it's super easy.

Buy another stainless steel insert and a couple of replacement gaskets. I've not ever had a gasket go bad, however they will absorb the smell of whatever you are cooking, I keep one for chili and curries, another that is just for making cheesecake, and one for everything else.

This steamer basket fits perfectly and has a good handle you can get ahold of to pull it out without burning off your hands.

The 3 piece kit with the egg rack has a steamer basket that goes on top of the rack. Should be here Friday.

I am going to have to look into these things, everyone is screaming about how awesome they are.

I've been looking at them for a couple of months and still haven't pulled the trigger. I'm getting closer.

Whats great about them?

Pressure cooking is faster and seals in juices in meat. The old school pots will work, but these are just automated. They run up to pressure, then maintain it for time you tell them too, then you let the pressure come down. The whole process takes less time than normal cooking whatever it is.

Ribs usually take 4 hours in our oven. They take 45 minutes or so in the pressure pot.

Ok. For the second time in row, my instant pot didn't seal for pressure cooking. I've only used it between 10 and 12 times.

You turn the handle to the left for slow cooking and what not. Leave it pointing forward for pressure cooking. Tonight and the last time I used it, no pressure.

I'll check to make sure it was nothing I did, but this is not confidence inspiring.

Mine you have to put it on slightly twisted to the right. Then twist it until the arrow is in the center and it locks in place. You’re not just putting it on pointed forward without twisting it are you?

I got my wife the 6qt crockpot one for Christmas and used it for the first time last night. Made a pot of chili in about an hour from start to eating. Will get more use with another baby on the way.

What are you trying the cook in it?

Most of the sealing or lack of sealing is related to not enough water or liquid.
Make sure your lid is locking on correctly and the sealing valve is in the closed position.

That makes sense because the last time I used it was for this same dish. But, the liquid portion consists of two cups of beef broth and a can of cream of celery soup. I would think that's enough liquid when the manual states a cup of liquid for most uses. Of course, I was cooking 2lbs of venison cube steak.

So far we have done boiled eggs, sweet potato, and ribs. Still getting the hang of it. Sweet potato needed more time. Ribs are great. Wife is already talking about getting a 3 qt for doing veggies.

Ham and potato soup I made last night. It was 20 mins from cutting up potatoes to eating soup.

So you can try a couple of things.
Just put a cup of water in it and see if it will seal, if so it's the recipe.
I've gotten by by using less liquid by heating up the water or broth, if you are sauteing or browning before you add everything, the pot will be preheated and seal quicker.

I've gotten mine to seal with down to a 1/2 cup of hot water.

Perfect rice in 7min today... then dry black eyed peas (no soak) to perfectly cooked 45 min later in the electric pressure cooker. as someone said eariler, it just an automated version of an old technology thats more suited for cooking, mine does not replace my canner, but we love to cook with it. You know how chili always taste better the 2nd day.... with pressure cooking, you get that in less than an hour.

I made a couple of substituations.

I forgot to get celery at the store so I used frozen broccoli instead. I've made this before with celery though and it was excellent.

I use gluten free all purpose flour because I'm gluten intolerant.

otherwise the recipe above is what I used.
