Got lucky today and walked the prize table first. Picked up a certificate for any Nightforce SHV riflescope. I'm pretty illiterate when it comes to stuff that costs this much - which model do I want? I honestly don't even have a rifle to put it on. The closest thing I have right now is a Aero built AR10. That doesn't mean I won't have a Tikka, Savage, or similar long range gun at some point. So, which Nightforce SHV model do I want?

I dont see any reason not to get the 5-20x56.

Congratulations!

You have a choice of four different SHV models.
Of the four , one is a 1st focal plane and three are 2nd focal plane and should be your primary decision to make.
Both have advantages and disadvantages and in the end the choice should be yours as what Best Fits in with your plans.

I would encourage you to seek out John Boyette and / or @Frontline Defense as ( I would think ) either would be happy to clarify a choice with you.

Other material you may what to consider;

Safe Shooting

What kind of shooting do you do with your AR10?

Another thing to think about is weight.

The 3.5-10x is 20oz, the 4-14x is 27oz (non F1 model) and the 5-20x is 30oz.

The 4-14x56 F1 would be my choice. It’s just as heavy as the 5-20x but I like the exposed turrets and the features associated with them, as well as the FFP.

Punching holes in paper. I have little to no interest in hunting. Right now it's rocking a SWFA fixed 10x. I think the NF would go on the AR10, the SWFA would drop down to a 18" SPRish build, and the 1-6x strike eagle would go on the chopping block.

Decided that I don't have a gun for this nice of an optic - and probably wont for awhile. Putting it up for sale. Thanks for the help.
