Since I never served, perhaps those of you who did, or are serving now, can provide some direction.
I donate to a few veteran-related groups on occasion. Today, the American Legion asked. I am leaning toward sending some money, but want to give to a group or two who provide tangible benefits to veterans, not to some group who just spends their donations on staff and lines their own pockets.
Thanks for your suggestions, and for your dedication to our freedoms.

I support Fisher House … it‘s kinda the Ronald McDonald House for the miltary. They have 2 NC locations (Naval Hospital/Lejeune and Womack/Bragg) and 1 in SC (Charleston/Johnson VA Center). Like 98% of every dollar donated goes to the maintaining of the facilities so families of injured military can stay free of charge while their loved one is in the hospital.

Ditto on fisher house; I've known lots of families they've helped in really bad times.
Btw, the AL aren't "veterans".

I've always heard good things about Fisher House, especially when compared to some of the other 'veteran' organizations.

I've never outright donated to American Legion, but they are my go-to for anything flag related; they have a pretty well equipped online store.

Checkout Military Missions In Action in Fuquay-Varina. They help disabled, homeless/needy vets and send care packages to the troops overseas. I volunteer with the group that builds wheelchair ramps for the disabled vet/spouse and the price of treated lumber for the past 16-18 months has been hard on the budget but Mike figured a way each time, he dosen't turn away from a vet.

Patriot Hunts. 100% of money goes into the program...nobody makes a dollar running it, all volunteers.

Find one of your buddies who is a veteran that is having a rough go...
Pay a bill or buy them a PlayStation or something, that way your donation goes 100% to a veteran in need, and 0.0% to overhead and advertising.
