I've been thinking about getting a RZR 1000 premium for trail riding with friends and around the old farm. I'll 100% defiantly make it road legal.

Just curious what members have, have you had any trouble (outside of maintenance), etc.

In the past I've always had a car, jeep, something to turn wrenches on. More of a stree relief. I haven't had anything in about 7-8 years.

We have a '09 Yamaha 700 Rhino for joy riding & chores around the property. Only put about 35 hours on it since June, but love it.

No issues so far, but we don't beat on it. Mostly just bombing around the pasture, running trash cans up to the road, or riding over to the neighbors for drinks. It's also great for skidding the odd log, totin' firewood & recovering the z/t mower from the edge of the "marsh" (soon to be pond) when the muck would grab a tire & suck you in.

4wd with e-locker front diff & spooled rear. Pretty sure it'd climb a wall in 4 Low if it could get traction. Thank God the PO installed power steering.

Only caveat I have is that my BIL's RZR spent more time in the shop than on the trail & I don't hear great things about Polaris in general. Were I dropping the coin for a big, sporty SxS, I'd be shopping Honda or Yamaha, maybe Kawasaki.

Going out on my 2013 Can Am Commander tonight. I'm 3rd owner.
If you have a place to ride, they are great. And the commander is like a crossbreed with the
dump bed, and good for other stuff. I love mine. But I'll never pay 25-30 grand for the mack dady stuff.

Yes, we bought a Honda 1000 a few years ago and love it.

We got a Honda Pioneer 1000-3 for farm/fun use. Only about 60 hrs on it so far, but no regrets. Strong puller, fast, comfortable. The Mrs likes it much more than our older Honda 4-wheeler.

I bought a honda pioneer 700 new last year.
I've had some issues with it. If road legal is a goal, pass on the P700. Top speed is 42mph.
It's 60" wide so it will go on tight trails but it's pretty small and the cab options are limited.

One thing I like about the Honda is the wet car style transmission. No belt /clutch "rev & grab" feeling. If your used to an automatic transmission in your car then your all set.
Inexperienced driver's feel comfortable immediately.

I have a 17 Can-Am Commander 1000. We trailer it to Michigan every year for hunting but other than that, it just sits around.

I would have bought an older Rhino and left it at hunt camp if I would’ve known how little I would end up using it.

I’ve actually been doing a lot of research on SxS’s recently. I’ll be moving out to Yuma, AZ in a few weeks and I will have a TON of space to ride on.

I've had a Polaris Ranger 6 wheeler for 15 years. It's been a practical, work vehicle on the farm and can do 46 mph.

The Rzr's are fun, but not practical from a work standpoint. If your only interest is trail riding and having fun, then the RZR is the way to go.

Kawasaki Mule ProFX. Best tool I own. Has WAY more than paid for itself. We use it dang near daily

I’ve got a Polaris Ranger and the only thing that I’d have done differently is get the crew cab model as the grandkids have been coming steadily and I’m now over run on the machine. Not a bad problem to have.

Been trying to buy a Mule for nearly a year, but they sell before they come in stock. All I need is a 4010 but I want a FXR.

When i started looking a couple yrs ago i knew i wanted work/play and options were limited.I ended up with a General.I looked at about all of them in that category and sat in them too.I was tore between the Yamaha Wolverine x2 and the General and was leaning towards Yamaha because of known reliability but it just wasn’t comfortable as far as seating and was far behind on power.Yamaha now has the RMAX which is more comparable. The only complaints i had with the General is the stiff ride which they corrected with the XP models and i put a hunterworks belt on it to eliminate some of the clutch noise. With all that said if you are looking for trail/road only and dont intend to use it for work then i think you would be satisfied with the rzr.I have friends that are very hard on theres and the only issues they have is related to the way they treat them.Axles, hubs etc.My General and a friend on his rzr.F7EB0D01-5B35-439E-B327-DCA58E3B3A5F.jpeg844D6429-DDE6-44E4-A8B7-D8DB9E576418.jpeg6D36B549-0203-4402-99D5-BCFD5D55E275.jpegC1CED624-D136-4CF3-BB5A-B4ACD759DB05.jpeg

I think I’ve decided on a Kawasaki, Teryx4 S-LE. Now track one down in stock.

Have been taking to some friends who ride and the unanimous consensus is that anything Polaris Is Huge piece of shit.

They all have their own weaknesses. If you want a pure sport machine look into the KRX, not the fastest but Japanese reliability. I ride with a group of Polaris machines mostly and they do well, but a couple of guys are looking to switch to the KRX for decreased breakages.

I sold my RZR 900 S this summer and just purchased a Yamaha RMAX4 in September I couldn't be happier. Other than being a bigger machine to handle I don't think it gives up anything to the 900 RZR.

Need more context to this though. Do they beat the ever living shit out of them, use them in space they are design for, maintain them?

There are more rzr out there than any other side by side. Personally I like Cam-am looks better but looks <performance/reliability

I do know from the FB groups that Polaris is having some QC issues lately. But they are also putting out more machines than the other manufacturers during the shortage.

Sounds like Haas, the brand of cnc machine I had that I just sold because of stupid qc decision making.

I can tell you based on recent experiences they seem to skimp on wiring in years past. Too thin and too low of a strand count leading to breakage from vibration. I cant speak to the sxs but there are wide spread issues on atvs. Not hard to fix/diag if your good with electronics but not something i'd be happy about in a new machine. These folks sell repair kits for them and other makes as well, been happy with the stuff I've ordered from them. https://otbpowersports.com/wiring-repair-harnesses/polaris/

I hate wiring...spent 2.5 years building a 91 mustang. Went on the dyno laid out 625hp on a 2,300 car. Last 3 runs it would break up top in the rpm, wiggle the wiring harness (well over 20 years old) and it would stop. I re-wire that whole car. Took me 3 months but it was done right, learned a lot.

I use to make wiring harness for JK Jeep Wranglers for the mall crawlers that wanted to add endless amounts of accessories.

The friends that have them, just used them as utility vehicles, ranch work, and hunting lease type use and they were both Rangers, so maybe the RZR will have better luck?

I've seen some rzrs be trouble free and I've seen some have glitter machines for trannys

I didn’t know you did RTMR’s. I had one in my Tacoma, but sold it when I returned it to stock. Should’ve kept it for my next vehicle. Wiring isn’t fun and RTMR’s make it easy.

I only have manual tranny for my dodge for this reason
We just became best friends

Yea, I did it for a while. I notice RZR only replace the pig tail of the harness and not the actual harness...might be a market there.

I saw 2 jeeps catch on fire because of fudd wiring.

When I rode trail bikes I saw a lot of them and talked to many owners. Never heard much negative because most were new. The tendency of side by side owners is they don’t ride much and will never be alone. We called SxS owners Sunday joy riders. They could never go on the fun trails motorcycles and smaller ATVs took. They are an open field or logging road vehicle. I’ll also say the experienced fast riders seemed to move into the CanAm. One of the places I road had a ban on them when I was riding. Too much environment damage he said. If you could get to Brown Mtn OHV or another large riding area and hang out one day, I’m sure many people would take you for a ride and give you feedback.
