I'm considering selling/trading my Kaufman steel deck car trailer for a 14-16'x5 utility trailer. I haven't hauled a jeep or tractor in years but I still want the ability if I need it. So who makes a good double axle utility trailer in the piedmont area?

When we were shopping for trailers, we stopped in at Kaufman's. One guy in the office said that the other guy will be right with us. We could hear the other guy on the phone, desperately trying to secure a sale by getting the customer to put a down payment on a credit card and it was equally obvious that the guy was hesitant or refusing. We sat there for over 30 minutes and nobody helped us, so we walked out. We went down to a place in Sanford and drove away with an 18' double axel utility trailer that is good for 10,000 lbs. The idiot Kaufman likely lost two sales that morning .

There is also Kraftsman trailers in between Ramseur and Siler city on Highway 64. I had a big 32 foot gooseneck from them years ago, and wish I never sold it. They were really good to deal with at the time, so may be worth checking with.

We run Kaufman mostly at work, no issues.
Lots of people like Big Tex.Texas Pride looks decent. They're both in the Triad.

14 to 16 feet long & 5 feet tall? You sure you want to do the duck walk getting out?

I've been looking for a while - seems like decent steel trailers are available used on craigslist / facebook market place. If you want to pay extra for aluminum the choices are slimmer. Aluminum obviously should last longer due to no rust and being lighter gives more carry capacity.

Pay attention to the axle type and weight rating.

I bought a few enclosed trailers for work from them roughly 10 years ago and they were all very nice trailers. I recently bought a 6x14 utility trailer for myself from Barger Equipment. It was a Triple Crown Brand and I am very happy with it. It was also pretty reasonable compared to every other trailer I looked at.

I did my research and homework about a year ago for trailers. I had Tesh and Sons build be one for me. They made it to my specifications. Hands down the BEST trailer I’ve ever owned. They are located in Lexington. Family owned and operated. Keith will give you a tour of their facility and show and explain why he does what he does.

Kaufman is to Tesh and Sons as Harbor Freight is to Snap on.

Just took this picture this morning. Took my FIL’s car to get upholstered. IMG_2140.jpeg

Kaufman by a mile. You have one. Has it given you any issues? I ordered a 32x102 26k gooseneck back in May. Built to my exact specs. Took 4 weeks to the day. And about 6k less expensive than any others I had priced.

Depending on what you have now. I may be interested

I have a similar trailer from Tesh & Sons but with steel deck. My dad and I ordered it to our specs in 2001, and have had no issues. :)

Not a problem, I'm hauling thoroughbred mini race ponies and all the riders are midgets.

Because your title requested “who builds the best trailers”, I’d have to say either Diamond C or Landoll.

My hydraulic dovetail 40 foot gooseneck is a Brute that was speced out by me and built by Brute in Texas. If I was buying a replacement today it would be a Diamond C, budget permitting.

PJ also makes great trailers.

I have the 16’ version from Sure Trac. I drove from SC up to Mocksville to buy it. I can haul my SXS and four wheeler together. Really well built.
