Why do I want a Scar 17? Talk me out of it...

Interesting note in their FAQ…

Yet they designed and manufactured the rifle for suppressed operation, to include a setting defined in the owners manual for it.
I am sure it would be on a case by case basis.

Edit to add, it doesn't say it WILL void the warranty, it says it may.

As for Scars breaking scopes, don't put a 3 dollar scope on a 4500 dollar rifle.

Just sayin', I've had no issues with mine and it'll shoot holes on top of holes with cheap milsurp ammo.

I have about 10 different ARs chambered in 5.56, 300bo, 308, and 6.5 Creedmoor. I've got them set up in rifle and pistol configurations for CQB, medium range, hunting, plinking, and long range. All of my bases are covered in the semi auto rifle department. I don't NEED another heavy .308 rifle. But, I WANT one, and I don't know why...

Many people think SCARs are ugly, but I think they are beautiful. I love the ACR style stock and oversized fore-end. I wish I could just buy an ACR style stock and put on an AR and a Stribog SP9A3...

If I buy a SCAR 17, it's not gonna get shot long range. I'll put a suppressor on it and set it up for HD. And, I'll shoot deer with it. But, my longest hunting shot is only about 50 yards... Why would anyone use a SCAR17 for HD and 50yd deer hunting? I already have several guns set up with optics and accessories that would do a better job at both those things... Why do HD with a long ass SCAR17 and suppressor when I could use my suppressed Stribog SP9A3, or suppressed MK23, or suppressed 300bo AR Pistol, or suppressed HK VP9T? I could have a different suppressed handgun in each hand! Or a different suppressed AR in each hand! (I know that's stupid and I wouldn't do that. But, I could.)

Why do I want to waste $3000+ on a SCAR17?

I have been looking at the PSA Jakl 308. I'd happily buy one of those and save $1k... But, there is no telling how long I will have to wait to get one (at least a year). And no one knows how much they will cost... And, the current generation of JAKLs in 5.56 are having lots of hiccups. Why would I wait a year to buy a new weapon which is guaranteed to have kinks that will need working out? Why not just spend the $3k and have a superior weapon in my hands right now?

SO, I'm asking y'all... Why do I want this thing?

If I don't get a Scar, what should I get instead?
Buy a great bolt gun, scope, CAN , Atlas bipod and some Federal GMM.
QUIETER, More Accurate by far, More Reliable by far.
What you gonna do with a SCAR, but waste ammo, trying to prove how gungho you be?
Then, you gotta take the Tonka Toy apart and clean it, a lot😳

Replace "SCAR" with literally any gun ever.

Guns efficiently convert money into fun. The barrier to entry on a SCAR is unreasonably high. There are plenty of guns that will convert ammunition into recoil and smoke just as good for a whole lot less money.

18" barrel FAL with top cover rail for optics

I agree, but sometimes wanting something has little to do with practicality or it being the 'best' or the most value of its type.

If you own a good FAL like a DSA, don't you want a real FN? If you have an FN, don't you want an HK91, Galil 332, Springfield M1A, AR10 etc. in the stable? Some are satisfied with a 'copy', or just one version, but others, like me, love the gun-hunt (if/when I have extra $$$).

For better or worse, I have many firearms in my collection that fit the 'not best and overpriced' description, but I'm happy to own/collect them. Also, I doubt I'd lose money on most when I eventually sell them.

Bruh, for that price you could build 4 PSA ARs and they are just as gud!

I really have no reason >not< to buy one. You only live once and if it isnt going to put your family in financial strain, then go for it.

My only personal reason for not wanting one was the ammo price, and I would prefer a Tavor. But there are also 1911s out there that I dont own.

I ordered all the parts (minus a stripped lower) to build a PSA JAKL in 300bo with a 8.5" barrel. It'll all arrive at my house in a few days and I'll get a tax stamp for an SBR before assembling. I also picked out a Keymo Flash hider in 5/8x24 for my Sandman S and a Geissele trigger. We'll see how it all turns out... Watch it not run right. Hahaha. It's probably going to need some tweaking...

This should be fun... Maybe after throwing this together, I won't want a SCAR17 so badly...

I got good news and bad news...

The GOOD NEWS:

- I got my Form 1 submitted today! Let's start the count down and see how long this one takes to get approval.

The BAD NEWS:

- PSA has only shipped my magazine... The Lower build kit and the upper have not shipped... And, the upper is showing as Out of Stock on their website. It was all in stock when I purchased it 2 days ago. Who knows how long it'll be before they get more 8.5" 300AAC uppers cerakoted in FDE and back in stock... So far, not a peep out of PSA. How long are they going to let it sit before they tell me they don't have an upper to ship me? And, why haven't they shipped the lower build kit? It shows as in stock, still.

If it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck at all...

“Why do I want a Scar 17? Talk me out of it...”
Because:
- They’re overpriced anchors
- They’re very heavy for what they are
- Even with all that weight, they hammer
scopes
- They’re inaccurate. If a gun’s inaccurate,
it’s unfun.
- They look dumb

Thank me very much…

You’re seriously concerned that PSA isn’t going to ship your build kit, and it’s only one day after your ordered it?

Figured you would’ve ordered from them enough time to realize how varied their shipping times are.

My threads wouldn't be so much fun if I didn't inject at least a little drama... I'm like the reality tv show producer of CFF... I'm keeping things interesting!

I don’t think I’d be concerned. Ordered a rifle a couple weeks ago. Bought it soon as I got the in stock notification. Let me check out then showed out of stock few mins later. Rifle still shipped in PSA’s usual timeline.

What's their usual time line? It's been a year or two since I ordered anything from PSA.

I had two, Sold two, would never get another. They destroy most scopes with the exception of the Trijicon Acog and LVPO. As for scope issues, we never had any except the scopes would get loose on the rail, even though they had ample loctite for the bolts. All of my other .308 AR's could out perform them with factory ammo. The mags are expensive, but not HK expensive. They run just fine suppressed and we never had an issue. I did add the Geisellle Super Scar triggers, but they were very expensive for little real benefit.

If you like it, then it is for you. I wouldn't care what anyone else thought. I would buy and enjoy it.

I know I'm being irrational... Just venting...

I ordered on Monday, May 6th. It's all supposed to come straight to me. No ffl needed.

Yes, it's only been 4 business days, but dang... How hard is it to put a box into another box, put some tape and a label on it, and put it in the pile for fedex to pick up?

PSA haven't even printed a shipping label. They've got my money. I know the parts are in stock... WTH?

I went to the PSA FAQ website. They say they have up to 15 business days to ship things.

WHY WOULD IT EVER TAKE THREE WEEKS TO PUT A BOX IN A BOX AND PUT A SHIPPING LABEL ON IT?

Wait until you have a warranty issue. 🤬

Probably because your order is at the bottom of a massive stack of orders and they don't have enough people to meet the demand - in the time frame you want, lol.

So, do SCAR's create some sort of double impulse like air guns, that's destroying scopes? How are they failing? Are the internal components coming loose like air guns do? Curious.

It's finally been delivered, but I'm not there to get it off the porch... Hopefully, it's on my porch.

Here's the pic the UPS driver took... It's a little disheartening...

Um… what’s in that picture?
Is that a female UPS driver?

For me, it’s usually about 2 weeks. But I’m also on the West coast so takes longer

Doubt the West coast thing matters. I ordered my Sabre 5/7 and asked to have it delivered to one of their stores for pickup. Showed in stock, immediately went to out of stock. Just got the email this morning at 11:00 (5/18) that it was available to pick up.
