Currently have a nighthawk and its good when you are on that side of the house but intermittently drops signal on the far ends of the house. Its been good to go for several years now but appears to be getting towards end of life. I have run a cat 6 cable to my shop from the router and I am looking to get a better wifi router for the house and a matching WAP in my metal shop. I also plan to add wifi camera's on corners of the house. The house is roughly 3900sq ft and 2 stories plus basement, the shop is a 30x40x12 metal building. What are you guys using? I just don't know what I should get or even what direction I should go with all the options out there. I am a tech. idiot so easy set up would be awesome.

I am at least a partial idiot. I put an Eero6 in my house. Came with 3 ‘hotspots’ or whatever the correct term is. Set up was easy and had everything working in about 10 minutes or so. I put a basic Eero in our cabin because the crap the internet provider gave us would work on the deck. About 20 ft for the wifi unit.

I'm running Eero for the main internet connection using a Nighthawk. Linksys for the back-up internet. Both work fine.

Backup internet? Wow, you must be high tech. I’m happy if I can keep one up and running.

Not at all. Had CenturyStink before the local provider ran internet out here. When we had a good rain the internet would go out intermittently. The kids needed internet for school. I use an AT&T plan as a backup. I keep it because it's cheap and portable.
