Wilson Combat 1911 Grip Safety Training Tip

More Vickers BS, if you have an issue with the 1911 grip safety maybe you need to carry a Glick..... Learn how to shoot the damned thing or leave it alone!!

If you want to see someone who can run a 1911 fast, come watch the OP of this thread. Maybe you'd learn a thing or two. Along with some manners.

Novaks wouldn't build $3500 semi custom Colts with "The Answer" one piece back strap if this wasn't an issue for some.

Yes, he got serious about it and got it done.

Back in the 1900s when I carried a Colt every day and every where I always had Thelbert Almond pin the grip safety. I have small hands and this was Pre Beaver Asses. And yes I was aware that there are those that believe it put you in a legal liability. Didn't care then, don't care now. If I had to use that gun the legal liability of the pinned grip safety wasn't even problem B. Or C. Or at all.
Amp I always enjoy your postings. Thanks for sharing. Hope you will come visit us sometime.

Im a thumb safety rider and I just added a Wilson Bullet proof low ride thumb safety. It doesn't feel nearly as different as it looks. I replaced a Wilson wide paddle thumb safety pictured on the gun. It changes your contact with the grip and grip safety when riding the thumb safety. I like it.

It ran great at today's Buccaneer match.

How about if you don't even know it's there and you've been shooting the gun, and just noticed it till the other day? Now you have one more piece of info to think about with all the other stuff in your head! That can't be good, can it? Lol. I'm such a newbie!

With 1911's there are a brazilian ways to modify them to suit anybody and everybody. They are like hot rods. Lot's of stuff you can change, and it's one of the reasons I have fun with them.

With a gun platform that's been around 100 years a lot of people have thought of a lot of ways to mod them.

This gun hasn't been modified, at least the grip safety hasn't, as far as I know. I just didn't notice it was even there till recently. Not very observant, I guess, but the gun did what it was supposed to do, so no harm done.

I really like the Bullet proof grip safety. Much smaller and compact and works. Things don't always meet expectations. The Bullet Proof Series of Wilson parts do.

That's a Bullet Proof Grip safety I fit on the Colt.

Field, I have a Brand New Randall Commander that was very late production and they put a grip safety on it that is Equally as ill fitting as the Colt in your picture.

And that thing came from the Colt factory like that I believe.

Ran into a guy at Buc a while back that likes to build his own 1911’s and on his current build he was breaking in had one of those low tide thumb safeties. It just felt wrong to me, then again I’m not really a 1911 shooter. I wouldn’t think that would feel right unless you had smallish hands, he did.

I've got fairly big hands (size large gloves), and honestly, if I was blindfolded and you mixed the two guns up I would be hard pressed to tell you it was shaped that odd if you just handed it to me grip first and all I could do was click the safety off with my thumb. This particular thumb safety feels much better than I expected it to when I looking at it on line. Wilson is not the only one who makes them either.

I was thinking you had pretty good sized mitts, interesting that you like the feel, or at least don’t mind it. Just didn’t feel right to me at all.

Side note, looks like you’re in pretty good position to get in Buc this year. Good luck!

I believe I have a stainless Randall magazine in a box somewhere.

Just ordered another "Low Lever" thumb safety from Wilson. This time for a Fusion 9mm.

I liked the Wilson low lever thumb safety so much on my Springer that I just fit one to this Fusion. They come blued or stainless, but they will Armor Tuff coat it on request ($5) which is what I did to better match the finish on the gun.

I like it! This would be a lovely addition to the Dan Wesson that will be coming to me in the very near future.
