Winchester 1895 Russian Contract

That is an amazing example! I am not as big a fan of Kalashnikovs, but if I could get a Remington Mosin-Nagant, a NEW Mosin, and one of these I think that would be the ultimate Czarist rifle collection.

Very nice example! They were used hard by the Latvians in Russian service in WW1, then sent to Spain for Republican service during the Spanish civil war. It is amazing any survived!

Man that’s a beautiful gun. One of my dream guns just to hang above the fireplace been looking for one a long time. Was at the gun show in Greenville yesterday guy had a sporterized 1895. Was done very well stock was a very nice walnut. Was in 30-40 krag only wanted 950 for it and I thought about it hard. But have always wanted a x54r version

3k back in 2020.
That's honestly a great price! Congratulations. Very jealous. Been hoping to find one with Spanish Civil War markings, although my understanding is that most of these that made it to the US did in fact come through Spain. Hard to tell from your picture but plausible that yours has a known Spanish marking on the left side of the receiver.

I don’t see a marking that you’re talking about. Could you point it out if possible? To my knowledge, there’s no visible SCW markings anywhere on mine.

I believe Winchester sold Russian 1895s on the civilian market that Russian inspectors rejected for extremely trival reasons like wood grain. Maybe yours is one of those?

I don’t believe so as this one very clearly bears the Russian acceptance stamp on the receiver that shows it was accepted by Russia and would have only received this mark. The Remington contract Mosins are the ones most commonly found to have been rejected.
