I know this has been discussed in a half-dozen or so threads, but I’m going to put the info here for now…

I took my PSA Rock 57 out for its maiden voyage a couple weeks ago. Had eight 23rd mags loaded up. Shot some unsuppressed, and after either the 2nd or 3rd mag, attached my YHM Phantom 22 (that had also never been shot). 4oz rimfire can rated for 5.7x28. The 184th (yes, the very last shot in the last mag) resulted in a a catastrophic failure of the can. It’s a two piece design, with a small serialized portion that has a blast chamber insert, and then a longer section of tube with the baffles in it. The tube and endcap were found ~45 yards away (target was at 50), and the baffles were scattered from maybe 25 yards up to 45 yards. The serialized part stayed on the barrel, and the ring from the long section that had the threads was still attached. Looked like this:

That was Tue 10/3. The can is on its way back to me now.

The time line:
10/3 (Tue): damage done
10/3: RMA requested
10/3: RMA approved
10/5 (Thu): shipped (forgot to take it to work with me on the 4th 😡)
10/9 (Mon): supposed to be delivered, but FedEx screwed around for two days
10/11 (Wed): YHM receives can and barrel
10/13 (Fri): I asked for an update
10/16 (Mon): reply received stating two baffles and the end cap had a strike, and that they’d cover it under warranty
10/19 (Thu): received an email stating RMA was complete and I’d be getting shipping info soon
10/19: tracking info received and package in FedEx’s possession
10/23 (Mon): package scheduled to be delivered
ETA: actual delivery date was Sat 10/21

I did have this back and forth with them today:

YHM: We wanted to let you know that your RMA has been completed and we are now in the process of getting this back to you.
BW: Is it YHM’s view that this was a random failure, and I should be safe to use the repaired silencer on the same host/barrel?
YHM: We would suggest confirming the bore in concentric to the suppressor. The suppressor is basically brand new.
BW: YHM had the barrel and suppressor. Wasn’t checking that combo something that was done by the gunsmith to confirm it wasn’t a concentricity issue? Everything looked good to me.
YHM: My apologies for the miscommunication. This was all confirmed in house so you are good to go.

So no answer at this point as to whether they think the failure caused the strikes, or the strikes caused the failure. I’m thinking the first option.

Overall pleased with the process. They had the can about a week. YHM paid for shipping both ways.

I mean it's not a good thing it happened, but that's an impressive turnaround.
Yes. But I was actually expecting faster. The serialized portion wasn’t damaged (except for some wrench marks on it I admitted to). The “repair” should’ve been nothing more than screwing a new tube of baffles onto the small portion. 30 seconds of work. I can’t imagine they actually fixed any of the parts. No reason they had it more than a day.

But I really just wanted my barrel back fast. I have other cans I could use if needed. 😁

Sounds like an excuse to go spare barrel shopping.

I guess I get shipping the barrel but also I don't. If I have a failure with an AR, am I supposed to send the whole upper? Do I take my optics off and now I have to spend time and money to rezero?

Do I pull the barrel, and once again have to put everything back together and rezero?

What if it's a bolt gun, do I ship them the whole rifle?

Seems like a pain.

This came in the RMA email (highlight is theirs, not mine):

Showed up early. In a YHM box. For a minute I thought they forgot my barrel, but it was in the pouch (which is also new). No tools or materials included. No other explanation as to what caused it.

I’ll assume it’s a new end tube and baffles. Didn’t take it apart to check the blast chamber insert, so it may or may not have been replaced. Definitely the same serialized portion, but it’s been refinished…and I can still see my idiot mark from a pair of pliers.

No reason not to…😎

They may not care about the barrel concentricity. They are probably only concerned with the concentricity of their YHM products. If you have the same failure with the same host they may not cover that under warranty a.second time....just something to think about if the threaded barrel to bore concentricity is the culprit.

Did you see the email convo I posted? They gave the can/barrel combo the ok:

While my PS90 and AR57 are both suppressed, I don’t see me shooting the Rock suppressed very often. Mainly because I’m about to swap my G23 for the Rock for EDC, at least for awhile. I won’t carry it suppressed, so I won’t be shooting it that way much. But I won’t hesitate to shoot it with the YHM can if somebody wants to see what it’s like with a silencer.
