Hello all, I’m guessing there’s a couple AK builders on this forum and I need some opinions. Will the Toth barrel population tools work on a RPK yugo m72 21.5in barrel in conjunction with the AK builder trunnion support and 12 ton press? Also is it possible to hone your front trunnion for a easier fit? Front trunnion ID is .906 and the barrel is .908

If you're talking the threaded rod barrel pop tool that toth sells it's used in place of a press to press in the barrel. If you're using a press then there is a support down at bed of the press to support the trunnion and a ram adapter on the ram of the press and some type of copper button to protect the crown. .001 - .002 is in spec for the barrel to trunnion tolerence, so it should be fine, use a little anti seizing compound and you should be fine and not get any gauling. I wouldn't do anything but just check for and polish out any burrs in the trunnion.
I dont have the akbuilder trunnion tool, so not sure if it is made for bulged receivers or not.
If you're worried about it R Forbus makes a dedicated set of tools for the m72.

Not that I'm aware of. But it does look like they make an adapter for their threaded rod tool to work with bulged trunnions.
Toth's stuff is all meant to build AKs without a press, so all his tools are built not to need/use one. They're meant for the guy who just wants to build one and doesn't want to spend much on tools.

If you have a press and you're going to use it for building the you'll end up not using anything toth makes. Good news is you can sell whatever you have for close to what you paid for it.

Seriously if you're only building one AK then you're better off sending it off to a builder and have it built for you. You're gonna be $500 in a set of generic build tools and depending on what you go to build you might find yourself needing more tools.
