Yup. Nobody ever needs an AR15 or large mag for home defense.

Two residents in Glen St. Mary, Florida, turned the tide on seven home invasion suspects by opening fire with an AR-15 and a 9mm handgun.

One of the alleged suspects was killed, another hospitalized, and a third was treated and released to police.

News4Jax reports the incident occurred around 4 a.m. Sunday when the suspects kicked in the door, claiming to be from the sheriff’s office. Three residents were at home at the time, and two responded by opening fire. The resident with the AR-15 estimates he fired 30 rounds by himself.

Two suspects immediately “crumpled to the floor with multiple gunshot wounds.”

The residents then “retreated to another part of the home” and called 911.

The rest at the link.

Good on them, hopefully they find out who the other 4 were

And people calling 911 to report they'd been shortchanged on the weight.

Sounds like drugs may have been involved. A home invasion and the occupants had a loaded AR at hand. It’s like they were anticipating trouble. Makes you go hmm.

That's what I thought. Seven thugs invade a trailer house. Come on!

The thugs also yelled "Sheriff's office" while busting in. This is something I've thought about before. The real cops conduct raids and you are not supposed to resist just because they identified themselves by yelling "police" while busting in your door at 3 am. How is a resident supposed to know the difference?

This is why 'No Knock' raids are a bad idea. Wrong addresses and imposters = Bad. bad...

Thats why I think you cut the power and water off. They (the bad guys)will get hungry, hot, cold, thirsty, bored or die trying to wait you out.

I like this idea. That way if they pick the wrong house you can sue for false imprisonment and any damages due to loss of power.

Yelling the word police doesn't mean you are.

You bust down my door and I'm going to respond, even if you are the cops, in which case like the Klingons in Star Trek like to say, "Today is a good day to die". I hope the door busters feel the same way.

Everyone I know has at least a couple loaded AR's. I think I have 2 in the car.

We must be the odd couple out. Ours are in the safe. I think the risk of a burglary and them being stolen is higher than the risk of my needing them at a moments notice.

So you'd rather be burgalled & robbed? Guns are my only defense. Except for this crazy Pit.

Even living in the commie north I always had a couple of handguns and at least one AR cocked & locked within get-to distance at all times. Actually, the handguns were just there to provide cover long enough to get to an Ar or the shotty.

We've got the attack cat in my avatar.

We keep guns at hand, just the pistol variety while the long guns are locked up.
I dated a girl once that had an attack cat. Those were the days of highwater pressed & creased bluejeans & Bass Moccasins with no socks. And of course a pack of Lucky's rolled in the sleeve of your white T. That dam cat tore my ankles up everytime I went to her door. But dam it was worth it.

I have a 1919a4 on a tripod with a belt loaded in it ready to go. Frick a 30 round mag, I got a whole can on tap if you come in uninvited :D
I believe someone made this their forum sig. Seems relevant. The "Tally ho lads" part still gets me to lol. :p

Can't image someone on the second story with a 60 round drum on an AR. Just crazy home defense stuff. ;)

They should only be used in the most dire circumstances for the most dangerous crimimals, not to serve warrants or look for evidence. There are so much smarter ways to do these things like pick up the suspects when they leave home, but then they couldn't justify their cool operator toys.

Links say it was a result of an ongoing fued between the two groups of people. For some reason I envision an Xbox game being the fuse.

I think it's time for you to get an AR pistol. Hahahaha.

If I'm not home everything is locked in the safe, except for the snubbie 357 I keep stashed for my dog sitter. When I'm home I got my shorty AR somewhere close.
