Inflated pistol economy.

I agree that the entire premise of the OP is flawed. In the current market Glocks do not hold their value better than other guns. As crazy as it seems Colt still holds value better than most and certainly better than Glocks. For example what is Gen 2 Glock 17 worth these days LNIB? Compare that to what a Colt O1970A1CS with a 71-72 serial number

If we're doing fair comparisons.....

Comparing a Glock to some Colt a boomer polishes with a diaper is not a 1:1.

I mentioned other companies doing the same thing as Glock- striker fired polymer frame pistols, of which there are copious examples.

Sure it is. Both guns are from the same timeframe. A stock Glock 17 gen 2 is not worth much more than it cost new. The stock Colt is worth $1250-$1400 depending on condition. It sold for around $800 back then. Lets also look at the fact that used Glocks are not $500 guns. You can get a LEO trade in Gen 3 or Gen 4 17 for $350 all day long even in this market. The hold their value about as well as any other polymer.

Your OP is as flawed as your logic.

Ok. Maybe I didn't insult enough people by devaluing Glocks.
While I'm here...

Colts are retarded and will become worth a lot less once the generation who think they are something special pass on.
Same thing for S&W's. OH MUH GAWD, EETS PENNED UHND REE-SUSSED! NEVAR FiEUHRED OUTSIDE THA FAC-TREE!

We should start a thread on Friday just to roast everyone else's favorite guns.

Many people on here will tolerate you saying something bad about their momma, but if you imply their Sig PPwhatevernumberpoopoo pistol isn't the best thing that ever was, well it's time for fisticuffs.

You clearly know nothing about my preferences in firearms. I would not put me in the Sig fan boy camp. I would say I am one of the bigger Sig critics on this forum. Again you continue to run your mouth and make yourself look stupid.

I’d say he was being cheeky. You’re not being very nice though.

I've been running my mouth since OP, why should I stop now? 🤪
Look, I'm not trying to hurt your feelings, I'm not even being half serious, just spouting off.

I love Glocks. Every time I hold one I appreciate the grip on my CZ’s that much more. Seriously though guns are worth what people will pay for them, and people value the brand for reasons real and imagined. I’ve owned several Glocks and the best thing about them is that they’re virtually impossible not to sell if you keep them stock and don’t go crazy on the price…oh, and they’re not in .40 but that goes for most guns.
Glocks marketing department is prodigious but they have a long history of reliability, probably made easier by the fact that they’ve been building largely the same gun for decades now. I don’t love them but I have to respect the durability/reliability they offer. If you just want “gun” and you find Lego bricks to be the most ergonomic shape you’ve ever held then it’s hard to argue against them.

It's in every rap song that exists. Glock rhymes with a lot of other words. Block, rock, cocktails, mock, sock, stock, etc.

🎶 Packed up my tools for my raw power move
Glock nineteen for casket and flower moves
for chumps tryin to stop my flow
And what they don't know will show on the autopsy 🎶

🎶 And flows through, all they knew, he's gun sick
His Glock clicks like high-heeled shoes on parquet floors
Mad sick, stand on hills and invade wars
Filthy foul, shovelling dirt, he's out to hurt 🎶

You'd expect to hear about the P320 in an old country song about it shooting the owner in the nuts then his wife leaving with his truck and dog because he's not a man anymore.

I have wondered this myself especially on used glocks. Best I can figure is it breaks down like this:
Let's say the new glock cost $600
Then you change out the sights, barrel, trigger, and maybe get a stipple job (so you can finally make it "perfection ")
When the owner decides they want to sell it, they price it for $600 or more so they can recoup some of the money they spent on upgrades.

I disagree. Toyota/Honda vehicles have, for most years and models, had much better reliability and longevity than other vehicles according to vast amounts of data from multiple sources, and that performance and the reputation derived from it is why they hold value. They continue to outperform. I don't think there is particular evidence that Glocks have better reliability and longevity than other brands still, there is no performance advantage. It's not the 80s anymore.

I carried a Glock until a couple months ago.

Cool. I disagree with you.

Please rant on over priced corksniffer “custom” hipower man-jewelry if you really want to see him blow a gasket.

Then we can head to the motorcycle forum, as I’d like to hear your thoughts on Harleys!

Okay, now you guys are boring me.

I’ll just mosey back over to the motorcycle forum.

Hi Powers? You mean those pistols that are completely outdated and sought after only because they used to be hard to get? The pistol no one really cared about until they stopped mass producing them?

Harleys. The motorcycle with the fake engine sounds to make them sound cooler than they are?
Like putting loud exhaust on a Honda Civic. 😈

Funny

Recently when shooting with some casual friends. I took a “small” selection with me. Can’t take just one out to play, boring. Took my 1911 commander that a smith worked over about 30years ago. I ran a mag through it quickly and asked who was the glock fanboy of the group. It was a rhetorical question, J raised his hand and I handed him two mags. He never missed doing drills on steel. He shoots a lot and wanted that pistol (over my dead body). It just works!

Now he wants one bad. I am old enough to remember that a semi was almost always single action. The triggers typically are much better. I would never feel under gunned with it. Shooting has changed. I started on round targets the size of a pie plate with quarter size bullseyes. Not silhouettes like most of today’s shooters. I still like one handed shooting for the head at 25yards. Different strokes for different folks.

All that to say he has a much better appreciation for the older designs now. I will admit there is not a much better semi for the casual shooter than a glock. I have seen rental glocks so filthy my 1911 would choke and they keep chugging along. Can’t argue with that. And the simplest manual of arms. They have a deserved reputation for simplicity and dependability. That drives sales to the general public.

It’s all in the exhaust system, nothing more, nothing less.
I rode this to lunch today.

About handguns or vehicles? If handguns, what evidence?
I think the fact that 65% of all law enforcement agencies (including federal, state, and local) in the US use Glock handguns, that speaks volumes alone. There are many other countries and NATO has adopted the Glock as their duty pistol. No other pistol in history has risen as fast in popularity as Glocks around the world.

Show me another pistol that has matched Glock’s status worldwide. They have set the standards that other manufactures strive to achieve. By making pistols built with similar materials and features. However, none of them have been able to build a pistol with as simple and few parts.

The 65% was taken from Forbes Magazine. I figure they have no reason to show bias towards any manufacture. There many other great pistols out there.

I really like S&W M&Ps I have one that has an amazing trigger and surpasses my abilities in accuracy these days. I love my Sig P365s and XTen, they have been great guns. My current EDC rotation consist of P365s, Ruger LCPs, and a Glock 48 and 43. All depending on my dress and activities. But when I’m going to be in extreme conditions and environments, my go to is my Glocks.

If you didn't want to discuss, why respond? Whatever.

You quoted me dude. But I’ll put you on ignore since you need me to prove I don’t care what you think. Cheers.

Ken Hackathorn and Larry Vickers, who have traveled all over the world to do firearms training will tell you that Glock is by far the predominant handgun you’ll see anywhere else in the world. By a huge margin.

No idea. I don't know anything about motorcycles, but I remember some people getting upset about something to do with the engine sounds being tuned to sound a certain way or something years ago.

Yeah, there's a South Park episode that explains that in detail......

Colts are retarded and will become worth a lot less once the generation who think they are something special pass on.
He's right....it's already happening....the S&W revolver market and the Colt market are narrowing monthly. My friend that sold his gun shop and indoor range said the last 2 years he was in business the highest price handgun he sold was $600. He had a counter full of Les Baers and Wilsons.

We live in a plastic gun world now. The Dirty Harry 29s have been replaced by Glocks...the movies moved us to buy 29s and the movies and video games move folks now to plastic. It will be after I've crossed the river for sure But the "worthness" of steel frame revolvers [or revolvers in whole] is diminishing monthly...........while it saddens me some, I am a realist. When I can't sell a Colt Clark Longslide for $2K or a S&W 52 with extra mags for $1K, the writing's on the wall.

When many of us (especially people just getting into the sport) have less disposable income and the “expensive” stuff just gets more expensive then those premium guns become aspirational for them in the same way we used to have pictures of Lamborghini Countaches on the wall. We think we’d love to have one but probably not in this lifetime (Looking at you Manurhin MR73).
For myself anyway, I’ve also found that I shoot a semi auto (striker or hammer) better than a revolver. I love my revolvers, I think they’re usually much more esthetically appealing than most of the generic plastic stuff, but when the proof is on paper it becomes harder to justify paying 2-3 times as much for something that you just don’t interface with as well.

yet people will still pay $500 for a used one like a schmuck.

If people are buying them, they're not overpriced.

Once, back when Virginia had a used gun market I was a member of a gun trader forum. I guess I still am, even though the forum is dead. A member posted a new thread: "Used Glock 19. $400". No generation, no pictures, no location, no round count. The first "I'll take it" was posted in 5 minutes. The average user doesn't wear one out, so a used one is just as good as new.
