Planning on good fortune with a filling all my tags. And my son getting 1 or 2 (8 yrs old). He recently shot my .308 and hit a small steel silhouette at 90 yards with iron sites on first attempt.

I’ve never been out on opening day but this year at the last moment I got the bug and figured “why not?” Checked a spot I share with a friend to be sure our stand was there and secure and got out early on Saturday. Got this doe later in the morning, the biggest of a group browsing around. The shot was great but she still ran for 100 yards in rough terrain. Meat for the freezer right off the bat!

Got another doe this last Saturday. Several groups of smaller ones came through in the late afternoon then she showed up about 30 minutes to sunset.
Not seeing any bucks at all yet, just occasionally on the cameras.

Couldn't stand not going so took my lunch break in "the hog house"!

Had time to snipe one. Been a while since I felt comfortable taking head shots with my changing eyesight. Trijicon is my new friend.

Gutted it and took it back to office. Found a paper Dunkin Donuts bag.

Good thing I have my own fridge. I guess I am Dwight after all. 😁

Shot these on a NWR primitive weapons hunt here in SC with my 700 ML. 250 gr Barnes TEZ over Triple 7. Weighed the sow. 120lbs on the nose. Guessing the boar is 250-300. I’ve killed a lot of hogs and that’s one of the bigger boars I’ve ever shot.

Thanks for all these pics, and congrats to everyone! I really need to get the NC hunting thing figured out, living here on the coast.
My hunting life consists of mountain deer- find the highest ridge, etc etc.
How the heck do you find deer in the swampy lowlands??? Lots to learn.

They gotta eat no matter where they live. Figure out what they’re eating where you are hunting. Right now, in the swamps, if you can find a white oak, swamp chestnut oak, or overcup oak that looks like someone has tillled the ground under it, you’re in business. When I find those trees I mark them on OnX. Then it’s just a matter of figuring out which ones are dropping and getting hit. I’ve hunted the same groups of trees for years.

Haven't been in this area before so I can't compare it to anything else. Locals all say it's down. This isn't one of the bad winter kill units thankfully.

Well this is last year buck I shot and tracked and jumped him up never to be found. Searched several different times. I found it today squirrel hunting little further to the left where I didn't look last year.

Same with me a few years back.

It would have been my largest buck with the bow but didn't find him until January, almost three months later.

He's on the right next to a huge 4pt that my BIL had shot.

Over a mile back on public land (WMA) I had to sit through a thunderstorm with hail, geat drenched and chilled to the bone all to have this fella walk out and make it all worth it.

Shot this one the other afternoon 5 minutes before legal time. Weird red glow from the 4 wheeler. He was chasing a pretty doe across a field and it didn't go well for him.
